The tree has been branched for Mozilla 1.7, which will become the new "stable" branch for Mozilla.
in place of 1.4. This is to be the basis for Firefox 1.0, and of course, the next version of Netscape.

They say NN 7.2 will be bundled with this thing.

The beta version of the Desktop Navigator is in fact an IEXPLORE.EXE-launcher. It respects your default browser setting for the text links, but the image links are opened in Internet Explorer even if it's not the default browser.

Try clicking on the image below "This week in pictures" in the News section of the Netscape Desktop Navigator...

Update: Never mind, I used an old version, in Desktop Navigator v0.9.9.3 it's ok. (But still, it should have never happened even in earlier betas).

Here's hoping that when AOL grab the necessary builds of Mozilla 1.7 to create Netscape 7.2,
for the Linux version, they choose to work on a version that has built in XFT font smoothing.

In Netscape 7.1 on Linux, the fonts have no anti aliasing, no smoothing, and just look fugly!

If the fonts in Netscape 7.2 for Linux look as rubbish as they do in Netscape 7.1, then I'll
just be using Mozilla App-Suite or Firefox for the majority of my web browsing on Linux!

If Netscape was smart, they would have put out a Release Candidate for 7.2 (7.5?) when Mozilla 1.7 RC1 came out.

I think, if AOL/Netscape are considering doing any Preview Releases for the forthcoming version 7.2,
they'll most likely wait at least until the the next Mozilla 1.7 Release Candidate is issued by Mozilla.

Since Netscape 7.2 is really only an incremental update in terms of version numbers, and also given
the fact, that AOL have dramatically downsized Netscape Communication Corporation, to the point
where it's probably just a few small offices, any preview releases for Netscape 7.2 are unlikely.

If this was a major new Netscape versiuon that AOL were planning, like Netscape 8.0 for example,
and if AOL hadn't sacked the entire Netscape browser development team last summer, then it'd
be more likely that we'd get at least one preview build before the full version was released.

How many Release Candidates are scheduled for Mozilla 1.7? Also, is the release date for Mozilla 1.7 currently known?

According to the Mozilla Development Roadmap, at least two release candidates are in store for Mozilla 1.7. The "ideal release date" for the final version of the software is 21 May 2004; however, based on past experience, the actual release date may well be several days to a month later.
