It's worth pointing out that, as of today, Netscape 7.1 (and Mozilla 1.4, upon which it was based)
is now precisely one year old. In about three weeks from now, it'll be exactly a full 12 months
since the news of the apparent "demise" of Netscape as a maker of web browsers.
Yet now, we're waiting to see when Netscape 7.2 will be released, based upon Mozilla 1.7 which
itself was officially released only just over a week ago. Since both Netscape 7.1 amd Mozilla 1.4
were both released literally hours apart, with Netscape first and Mozilla later, then given the fact
that all they need to do is rebrand a copy of Mozilla 1.7 with the Netscape identity, and add all
the usual proprietary add-ons (AOL/ICQ Messenger, Netscape Webmail support . . . ) all of
which could be done within the space of one working day, by one or two AOL staffers,
surely AOL could've had Netscape 7.2 done and dusted, and ready to before now . . .
I wish they'd hurry up, before we all start to lose interest. Some people probably already have!

It raises the question (at least with me): would it be any more advantageous to download it than to simply fly with Mozilla 1.7? I have no use for AOL/ICQ messenger nor for Netscape webmail support. So, other than the throbber (which really doesn't matter to me), is there any reason to even bother remaining mildly interested?
What about you, DJGM? You sound as though you are interested. Why?

You can't presume to know the situation, or how long it should take; simply based on past release dates.
The final version of Mozilla 1.4 is the same build as RC3. Not so with Mozilla 1.7.
One year ago, Netscape had full time employees working on the code. Not so with Netscape 7.2.
Have you built a version of Netscape, based on the Mozilla code, with NIM, webmail, etc? Have you done that for Windows, Linux, and Mac? Have you updated a website such as Netscape.com to reflect the new release? Have you seen any of that done?
There isn't much point in anticipating the release date, based on past release dates. Sit back and enjoy Netscape 7.1, which everyone was so excited about a year ago. 7.2 will be released when it's ready.

I have read that it is the Netscape Internet Service on a website.
I refuse to give the link becuase the web page contains some prono pictures.
I do NOT know how accuert this is.

Basically, I had been using Netscape since 1994, and have been disappointed that AOL
allowed it to decline until it eventually became a rather sorry shadow of it's former self.
Since Mozilla is effectively carrying on what was Netscape's old tradition (before AOL
bought up the company) of an independent firm making top quality internet software,
these days I mostly use Mozilla as my weapon of choice for browsing the web.
One reason why the new Netscape update could be favoured over it's open source
sibling, aside from the Netscape Webmail support and the AOL/ICQ Messenger, is
that previous versions of Netscape, have always included the necessary browser
plugins (such as Macromedia Flash Player and Sun Java) all in one package,
and it's very likely that Netscape 7.2 will also be the same.
Meanwhile, the developers at the Mozilla Foundation are trying to keep download
sizes as small as they can, by not bundling any of the aforementioned plugins. So,
if you're a Netscape user, you don't have to go and download extra packages to
enable the browser plugin functionality. But, if you're a Mozilla user (whether
you're a technically minded user or not) then you do.
One of my reasons for still being interested in Netscape, is the hope that they'll
also offer a CCK to go with the new 7.2 upgrade. As it stands at the moment,
this seems somewhat unlikely, but certainly not impossible by any means.
With a new CCK, I can resume production of what I used to call DJGM-i Distros,
and Antony can also resume production of the SillyDog701 Streamline Series.
The DJGM-i Distros, and the SillyDog701 Streamline Series were custom versions
of the Netscape browser suite, with a somewhat more flexible choice of plugins
and/or additonal extensions. I used to offer three seperate "editions", one was
the "Lite" edition, consisting of the Navigator and Composer components, while
the "Pigeon" edition, which also included all the messaging components, plus
the Flash and Java plugins. Finally, the "Full-On" edition, which had all of the
components from the "Pigeon" edition, plus optional multimedia software
such as Nullsoft Winamp 2.x and RealPlayer 8.x.
My old DJGM-i Distros page is still lurking on the former Club Netscape website,
but the actual downloadable files have since been removed from the servers.

Hmmm, there's one interesting thing I've noticed about that. Look at the toolbar with the round "N" logo
and the word "Netscape" next to it, in between the Personal Toolbar, and the tab bar. At first glance, it
looks to me like there may be a "XULified" version of the "Netscape Toolbar for IE" with Netscape 7.2.

Given the fact that 7.2's release was widely reported in a number of reputable articles, AOL would suffer an incredible loss of face should it fail to deliver. I'm certain if we remain patient (but hopefully for not much longer), we'll see its appearance.
