Thanks ChrisI for bringing us the news.
Still, this version is clearly it against Apple Human Interface Guidelines (HIG), as I mentioned in that post . I think I need to fire to bug in Bugzilla.
Second issue... Firefox 0.9 ingores the existance of the Dock. This is not acceptable, another serious issues in Mac OS X application design. What happened: the default window did not count the space used by Dock and open a window more than the default allowed size. (I haven't checked this one on BugZilla yet, perhaps I shouldn't mention the detail here so no one can take the credit if it haven't been reported.)
Apparently the UserAgent has been fixed.

It appears the the toolbar and theme problems I mentioned about the 0.9RC have also been fixed.

I downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox 0.9, and it runs beautifully.
One noteworthy addition to this release that was not present in version 0.8 or the 0.9 release candidate is a new online help system, a great new feature.
I was a little surprised to see the final version of Firefox 0.9 released before the final version of Mozilla 1.7 was, a minor issue.
Overall, I am impressed, and I look forward to version 1.0 and even better Firefox releases in the future.

In case some of you haven't read the release notes;
the default profile locations have changed. Read the "Changes you should be aware of" section of the Release notes for more info.

I'm so impressed with 0.9! The extension manager, the theme manager, the help section, the profile migration. Wow! It's getting "scary" good! I can't wait for 1.0!

The default profile location did not change, in relation to the nightlies.
In fact, after I disabled the extentions, I could use the same profile which I used for the past three months or so.
They handled things very poorly, making a lot of assumptions.
At their website, there was no .zip file, which was available from the link which you gave. Why should I think that working with the unzipped file very similar to what I used before, repeatedly, should cause me so much trouble.
I should have stuck with the unzipped files, and will uninstall that trouble maker.

The release notes only have the location for Windows XP and 2000. Where are the profiles stored in Windows 95, 98, ME?

The default profile locations should now be
\windows\application data\firefox\ on Windows 98 and ME
and
\windows\firefox\ on Windows 95.

Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
The default location changed twice since 0.8.
If you're upgrading from 0.8, the migration should have been automatic.
It's the nightly users that really need to be aware of this. To quote the Rlease Notes: | Quote: | When you run 0.9 for the first time, information about your profiles will be copied to the new location but the data will not be moved. You must not delete the Application Data\Firefox, ~/Library/Firefox or ~/.firefox folder, since these still hold your proifle, and the profiles.ini file at the new location refers back to them. You must move the files yourself manually and hand-edit profiles.ini to update the registry to point to the new location. |
I should also add that if you were using nightlies, and have your profile in a location other than the default (ie. separate drive, my documents, etc.), Have a quick look at profiles.ini in Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox, to see if there is nothing pointing back to Application Data\Firefox. If there are no references, go ahead and delete Application Data\Firefox.

I am using now the 6-12 nightly, based on 1.8a2. I am using the same profile for it as I have been for 0.9. As far as I am concerned, I have never seen anything more confusing, since 0.8 final. Firefox does not even have a "default" profile, because the profile migrated from NS7.1.

Downloaded 0.9, deleted 0.8 (except for profile), installed 0.9 and I'm rockin'. It is very, very cool.

More news:
If you're going to create a profile, create the folder yourself.
Firefox 0.9 profile manager will not create any folders. No SLT, no nothing.
This means, if you create a profile called "test" on your desktop, you'll end up with prefs.js, bookmarks.html, etc. on your desktop.
Additionally, if you're going to delete a profile, select the option not to delete the files. If you choose to delete the files, Firefox will delete the entire folder, then crash, and leave the profile listing in the profile manager.
