The missing file is located in the AIM.JAR in the NIM.XPI file. |
So did you fix the problem?
http://ilias.ca/netscape/troubleshooting/#sidebar says:
| Quote: | Missing sidebarpanel.xul
Download sidebarpanel.xul and copy it to Netscape/chrome/packages/aim/
 |
If you don't have a C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\chrome\packages\aim folder, create a folder named packages in the Chrome folder, then inside that, create a folder named aim, then place the SidebarPanel.xul file inside.

I would recommend that users at sillydog also share their 7.2 feedback with Netscape. A survey is located here:
http://wp.netscape.com/browsers/7/feedback/survey.html
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with Netscape.

I tried repeatedly to Submit my survey but it wouldn't take. It kept telling me to Go Back and complete it. Well... not now, folks. I spent a fair amount of time trying to honestly answer the questions and I've no intention of wasting any more time. Sorry.

For anyone trying to run Java applets in Mac OSX 10.1.5 using Netscape 7.2:
I installed Netscape 7.2 on my husband's Apple Ibook running Mac OSX 10.1.5 and was disappointed to see that Java applets would not run, even though they did in Netscape 7.0.
Netscape 7.2 was the only other Gecko-based browser installed on my husband's Ibook so this is the first time I came across this problem. I was looking around for a solution and I found the Camino 0.8.1 release notes which mentioned | Quote: | Java issues
* If you are running Mac OS X 10.1.5, you need to download the MRJPlugin to run java applets. | with a download link to:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/camino/releases/MRJPlugin.gz
I decided to try that download, even though I didn't have Camino installed at the time. After copying the MRJplugin.plugin file to the Library/Internet Plugins folder, Java applets now run in Netscape 7.2.

11 Sep, 2004 12:26 pm net 7.2 install? Running 7.1 Streamline. Windows 98 on Lapt |
[sdp=44297] |

If I download Net 7.2 can I keep my 7.1 Streamline running without loosing anything ? Will 7.2 then be primary or can they run at same time ? Would like to downlaod 7.2 and try for time, but would like to keep 7.1 running until I know that 7.2 is good. SCOTT: JHSCOTT@SPRYNET.COM
If possible to have both running, please explain how to load so that I don't loose one.

You can have Netscape 7.1 Streamline and 7.2 installed at the same time, but it is quite a hassle. I would recommend that you uninstall 7.1 Streamline and then install 7.2. If you insisit on keeping 7.1 Streamline then here are some instructions:
1. Go to start...programs...netscape...profile manager
2. Choose "Create Profile."
3. Click Next.
4. Call the new profile something like netscape72
5. Click Finish
6. Download Netscape 7.2 Setup
7. When 7.2 asks where to install, do NOT use the default location. Place 7.2 in a different folder such as netscape72 or something.
8. After setup, open 7.2 with the profile "netscape72." Use the profile "default" in 7.1 Streamline
9. Right-click on the shortcut to 7.2 and choose properties.
10. Add the following to the end of the command line. -P netscape72
11. Click okay and do the same to your shortcuts for 7.1 Streamline but instead add -P default instead.
Note that you cannot run 7.1 and 7.2 simultaneously (unless you try another long procedure). You can only have 7.1 or 7.2 open at the same time.

I just got the new Netscape 7.2 a few days ago and it's pretty much everything I enjoyed about Mozilla and more! I really like the improvements all round. It's a great job done by NS that can only get better.

i prefer the good ol multi column bookmarks. they should have the option there for this. that way those who like the scrolling look will be happy, so will the ones who like multi column.
is there a tweak to do this? like a simple reg tweak to get rid of the scrolling menu in windows?

29 Dec, 2004 5:16 am Java applets in Mac OSX 10.1.5 using Netscape 7.2 |
[sdp=50044] |
|
Faced with a similar problem (OSX10.1.5 on a rather old iMac, Netscape7.2, Java applets not working), I tried Alice's solution - and it works with Yahoo Games but fails with message "Start: applet not initialized." on our banking login screen .
Is this a well-known problem? (IE gives a similar message in the same situation, which suggests to my naive mind that the problem may be in MRJ, or in OSX 10.1.5)?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It could be that banking site requires MS's VM which is only available on Wineblows. Your best bet is to get VPC or get a PC.

15 Jan, 2005 5:14 am Who made Netscap 7.2? |
[sdp=51274] |
|
Hi,
I have read on http://ilias.ca/netscape/bigpicture/ this: "The team running the Netscape.com portal were not very happy with AOL's decision to discontinue Netscape, since a good portion of their traffic is from clickthroughs using the Netscape software. As a result, they took it upon themselves to contract former Netscape developers to make 7.2, using the money from advertising space on netscape.com, thus bypassing the AOL product development team."
Can anyone confirm this or give some further info/details? Are there any "old" netscape people still employed?
