It could be that banking site requires MS's VM which is only available on Wineblows. Your best bet is to get VPC or get a PC.

What's wineblows? I'm not familiar with that piece of software.

29 Jan, 2005 1:10 pm Answer to issues for imap.mail.netscenter.com [sdp=52054]

I have an answer for you but it's not pretty. Apparently, Netscape has become a total hand puppet for AOL.

They are tinkering with their DNS. These directions will resolve your problem temporarily, but in order to get a permanent resolution, you should complain loudly to Netscape at hostmaster@aol.com, hostmaster@netscape.net, and domains@aol.net.

For Windows 2000

Your file path is most likely C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc

For Windows XP

Your file path is most likely C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Instructions:
1) Go to www.dnsstuff.com
2) At the top right is a box that says "DNS lookup"
3) Put in the following host name "ns.netscape.com". For complex technical reasons I won't go into here, this is what imap.mail.netcenter.com actually maps out to.
4) Get back an IP address
5) Go to your file path and look for a file called "hosts"
6) Double click it and select "Open With" and choose word pad.
7) Make the following entry - the IP address you got from ns.netscape.com, tab over, and then "imap.mail.netcenter.com".
8) Save the file and close it
9) If you have any netscape windows open, close them.
10) now open your mail program, send another nasty gram to the email addresses listed at the top, and you should be able to get email UNTIL they change the IP address again, in which case start at step 1.

Hope that helps everyone out,

I'm curious. Why do you continue to use Netscape 7.2 when Secunia warns that it has a number of unpatched vulnerabilities?

A good reason to use Firefox or Mozilla, since vulnerabilities are repaired right away. The Netscape vulnerabilities won't be fixed until the next release.

Thanks. I have been looking for an answer as to why my mail is no longer working for the last 5 months or so. I will try this tonight. Thanks for a great solution. I guess that maybe I should go with another mail client to avoid this type of problems, but netscape mail was the only one that would work with netscape webmail. Would this solution help with other cilents as well.

28 Jun, 2005 11:26 pm Which download? [sdp=59700]

Hello,

I am at this page

http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/archive72x.jsp#72English

and want to download Netscape 7.2.

I have Windown XP Home, and am using NS 7.1 currently. It seems there are several choices for English 7.2. The one at the top of the page, called "7.2 English-Netscape" and teh one on the lower half called "7.2 English-Netscape Full Installer." What's the difference? I can see on the bottom half of the page there is a differenec between just getting Navigator and the Whole Deal, which I assume also contains email. But I don't undertsand what's in teh option at the top of the page?

Thank you.

The one in the top of the page is the "Active" Installer, which to put it simply downloads the full deal during installation.

Thank you very much. Why do they have that button below tht says "full installer?" It seems confusing to have both.

The top link, "7.2 English - Netscape," is the "stub" Netscape 7.2 installer. It is one small file that then downloads different components that the user chooses. You must be connected to the interent to use this option.
The "Windows (Full Version)" is a link to the full Netscape 7.2 installer. You download one large(approx. 24 MB) installer. It includes a full Netscape installation.
A third option "Windows (Navigator Only)" is similar to the "Full Version," but only includes the Navigator component. That file is about 12 MB.
With the latter two options, you only need to be online while downloading. They are sometimes know as an "offline installer."

Thank you, I think I figured out that was what it was. When I put in 7.1 a couple years ago, I don't think they had this short little "online" installler, or else I've forgotten. Anyway, seems to me that I had to do the complete download, then install, like teh bottom link indicates. The 288 Kb piece of 7.2 had me fooled, unitl it said it was goign to get teh things I needed and then download them. At dial up speeds it took awhile. Does anyone know--will I see any differences in performance? Or are the differences between 7.1 and 7.2 subtle and internal? Also, the Sun Java "failed teh CRC" during the download, so the Installer went back and did a second download that took about 25 minutes. That one must have worked. At least, I didn't get any error messages.

Thanks again for all the help.

Best,

JN

Hello agin.

I have installed 7.2, and from my brief use it seems to be functioning properly, or at least, my preferences seemed to transfer OK. Smile

I want to uninstall 7.1. I like to keep my disc clean of unneeded programs and clutter. When I went into Control Panel adn then Add/Remove programs, then clicked on Remove for 7.1 (7.2 was listed separartely), I received the following Error message:

"0: Uninstall log folder not found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Netscape\Netscape\7.1b1(en)\Uninstall\Uninstall Log Folder"

I think I have all teh CAPS in the right place, and teh right punctuation.

Can anyone help me figure this out? I'm not a computer wizard, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

JN
