Well, I'll give AOL credit.
Netscape Network is the default portal for AOL Instant Messenger, many many people use that. If they're using it with IE (which I'm guessing they would be) at least they would be able to consider upgrading, since Netscape (the browser) was only listed as a small block of text on Netscape (the portal).
I never thought I'd say this since 1998, but good job to AOL, for promoting Netscape as a browser and not a portal.

I will echo the sentiments about AOL. Not bad for a "dead" product.

Well, I've installed Netscape 7.2 30 minutes later than I proclaimed before. So far SP2 hasn't screwed it up. And finally the Start menu is no longer showing "Netscape 7.0" and "Netscape 7.0 Mail" for Netscape 7.1.
I have to say, page load times are much, much better. I can't see any really big new functionality yet, but I've only had it installed a few minutes so I guess I'll have to fool around with it for awhile.

BTW, I thought the XBM format was part of Dynamic HTML, have they decided to support that again? They seem to have an option for the XBM format in Advanced properties, as well as MNG image support, which I thought was removed in Mozilla 1.4. Did they put that back as well?

MNG image support has not been restored. The MNG image near the top of this web page will not load in Netscape 7.2, or any other browser release based upon a post-1.4.x version of Mozilla.

Today's software release encouraged me to make this:

It's good to be using Netscape again. Smile

Andrew T.,
I can't see that image on the top of the page, but Netscape still gives me the following two options:

It gives me options for XBM images and MNG images...
Any ideas on how this happened?

17 Aug, 2004 5:11 pm NET 7.2 ?? [sdp=42355]

HI ALL:

I AM RUNNING 7.1 STREAMLINE as my primary Browser. It is important for busines, etc. etc. I hve it totally full of files, filders, Mail boxes and Mail since 2002.

NET 7.2 ?? I would love to have 7.2. But, is there a SillyDog streamline ?
Should I download it from Netscape ?
If I donwload 7.2, what happens to my Net. 7.1 ? Mail ?
Any advise on HOW TO ?

Maybe even downlaod 7.2 and still have 7.1 as back-Up ?

How do I get all the contents of 7.1 into the 7.2 ?

ALSO: Does anyone have any advise on HOW TO "BACK UP" my Netscape Browser on my Hard Drive so when I loose it, I have a BACK -UP ready to install.??

THANKS.

i suppose what u want to back up is ur personal files such as "email/address book/saved password/bookmarks".
I think NS 7.2 will safely pick up all these stuff from NS 7.2. but to be safe, I suggest(for windows XP):
1. goto C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\ back up this folder to a safe place, if anything goes wrong, just re-install NS 7.1, and copy back this folder.(This folder have all the personal imformation I talked above, and is the folder u need to back up from time to time even when u are not updating software.)
2.un-install NS 7.1 from add/uninstall program in control panel
3. install NS 7.2

also, NS 7.2 has a "base version" which is similiar to streamline version here, it doesnt contain stuff other than browser.

Update: I found out u are using win 98, so ur profile folder shoule be here:
#

On Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME (without log-in), a typical base profile location is:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\
#

On Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME with login, a typical base profile location is:
C:\Windows\Profiles\[Log-in Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\

Edit, BBCode format added by Admin

Is it worth installing then??

Netscape 7.2 seems to be pretty good. I find it stupid though that the IM isn't updated. You can message to ICQ from AIM with it, but the other way around still doesn't work Crying or Very sad

They seem to have fixed their Video pages though, which is really nice Smile

Btw. does anyone have any recommendations when migrating from Thunderbird to this Netscape release?

Not yet, no Streamline yet, and there needs to be an NS CKK.
You should back up your proflie files from C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\ramdomnumber.slt\
to a reasonable folder

It's probably just a minor bug: References to MNG support remain in the System field of the Preferences dialog box of Mozilla 1.5-1.7.x and Netscape 7.2 in spite of the fact that the actual support has been removed.

I noticed another minor visual bug in the Preferences dialog: Under Appearance > Themes, the sample image for the "Classic" theme hasn't been changed from that in Mozilla, and shows the option "Mozilla.org" on the Personal Toolbar and the URL "http://www.moz..." in the location bar! The equivalent image for the "Modern" theme, meanwhile, was changed to one showing Netscape references and features.

Today I have had the opportunity to install 7.2 on several PC's. One running Windows XP, several running Win 2000, one on Win 98SE, and of course, last, but not least, the old dog I'm posting this message with, on Win 95B, as shown by my (legit) UA string. This old beast is an old IBM PS/2, with an upgrade board, but since the unit is originally from 1987, the upgrade is only a 133 Mhz processor, with 40MB of RAM. The install took a bit, as most things do on it, and it takes a few minutes for 7.2 to load, but it runs competently on this dinosaur. I noticed that the "official" system requirements no longer list Win 95, as had been previously speculated, but it does run fine on 95 after all.

One other item of note...the Chatzilla feature, new for Netscape, seems to install only on the Win 2000/XP systems. It did not install on 95/98.
