Even though it is a little buggy yet, I like the look and feel of the new browser. I use it all the time. For those IE haters......Live with it! I have used IE since 2.0. It is what 90% of the world grew up on. To have a page "view like IE" is a plus for NS, not a slam. This browser is now smarter than others. Smarter because it knows when to give people a choice and at the same time, keeping IE within the Netscape Logo! Not the other way around. I see nothing wrong with the interface. It is very good looking and easy to use. No it is not perfect. But what browser is? It is a prototype, not a bullseye target for people to bash for stupid selfish reasons...oh I hate the color, Oh it's too busy, Oh, how dare they use IE.
I say bravo to the new designers. Keep up the great work!

I, fully, agree with you. I don't think that many negative functions should be isent , especially with the very first build, and mainly because the users do not find it up to their specs. The negative critics may be partly correct. But I want something which works, more than anything else

Many of us first accessed the world wide web in the mid-to-late '90s, and the most popular web browser through the mid-to-late '90s was Netscape Navigator. I started out with Netscape 1.0 myself.
I respect the opinions of users who are indeed happy with the performance, appearance, or features of the Netscape Browser prototype. No one is being forced to use the browser, and in the end it will provide users with more choices. That said, I'm more than happy using the regular version of Mozilla Firefox myself. As previously mentioned, no browser is perfect, although Firefox IMO comes incredibly close.
| Al wrote: | I'm still not pleased with the IE feature, can someone tell ,me what is the file for the IE engine in NS prototype | As previously stated , the "View as IE" feature depends on the file npTrident.dll (in the browser's Plugins folder) to function, and depends upon the Windows/IE mshtml.dll file for rendering.

<snip>
Or better move it somewhere else for backup reasons.
If you do it, the options "Display as IE" will still be visible, but will have no effect (so everything will be safely rendered by Gecko, even if you set it to be rendered by IE).
To get the "Display as IE" back, just move the npTrident.dll back to the Netscape Browser\plugins directory. |
The easiest way to disable the "Display as IE" feature is to simply rename the file to XnpTrident.dll. To re-enable the feature, rename it back to npTrident.dll.

23 Dec, 2004 3:10 pm A question about playing streaming media |
[sdp=49764] |
|
I found out that a number of PBS station stream in more than one format, and, invariably the Windows Media format does not work, although it is possible to save link as...., or use a different format, which I usually do.
But, I noticed that the Prototype works. The plugins folder has only the Acrobat , and two quicktime files, beside the much maligned Trident file.
So, I borrowed the Prototype file, and plunked it into the NS7.2 plugins folder. Guess what? It is enough to allow NS7.2 open the link to WMP!
It works in Moz1.7.5, and FF1.0, as well.
I have had to download the link with at least three station which use .asx format, i.e. KUT-FM, KBYU-FM and the local KVNO-FM. Now, WMP opens directly. Beethoven.com uses .wmx format and it works fine, also.

It's not that bad. |
You know, some people will not like it for many reasons, but mainly because it is not what was expected, i.e. a clone of Firefox. Of all things, the theme is the last thing which concerns me. I barely look at any theme.

I actually like the theme.
I hope that it is included with the final release.

Look back a few pages and you'll learn that the theme used by NS Nav 0.5.6+ and the final screenie is a lot different
