And are there any disclaimers stating we can't offer the installation file for download? I don't mind to share it...

Yes, its written in the EULA that you cant share it and so on. But I dont care about such things. I am fan on Netscape, I am not going to make any bad things with it so I just ignore it. I would recommend you the same, although I would never share it with some unexperienced user or a journalist who would critize it in media, as it is still only beta or even aplha version. BTW I have this second prototype but only as packes files, not as installation. If anybody would be so nice to share with me a link or the exe file I would be more than happy. Write me to peterweisenbach@netscape.net thanx.

You are wrong I didnt post here any material which is breaking any EULA. I just stated that I dont care about such things. "Discussion of breaking EULA illegally" is very wide term, I would suppose that this means giving here some recipes how to crack software which is using encryption etc. If you think my opinion which I stated here was violating rules than we understand the rules in other ways. As far as I know in any civilized country you have the right to critize the laws, as far as you dont break it and I didnt break anything here. I am also not breaking the EULA on my own computer and in my country where american laws (such as those mentioned in the EULA) are irrelevant and therefore I cant break tham. In my country no EULA is rellevant as only personal signed documents are legally binding.

Ehhm, I was asking if there was a restriction, not breaking it.

Thanks Gregor. I have not been looking for any extention.
Otherwise, if you can go past the Theme, it is working perfectly well for me.

i assume the filename is still "NSbrowserSetup-Full.exe" (i dont have the new prototype yet...)

EDIT: it seems that the filename is the same, but now its not in caps (nsbrowsersetup-full.exe). at least that's how I got it. Posting from it now Smile

I just installed the new Prototype this morning. I first uninstalled the Old Prototype browser and rebooted. Then, because I wanted a clean install, I deleted the entire C:\Documents and Settings\Alice\Application Data\Netscape folder, containing the profile data, so that a fresh profile would be created.

I installed into a new Program Files folder location by editing the install path from C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape Browser to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Browser, then I imported my preferred Mozilla profile data, when asked at the end of the installation.

Bookmarks and cookies imported fine, but not my password data. Using File > Import (from Mozilla profile) "Saved Passwords" also did nothing, although I got a message that it was successful. I think that was also a problem in the old Prototype and in Firefox as well. Even so, Firefox allows you to view your stored passwords, once saved. I couldn't get the Show Passwords feature to work in the NS Prototype2, even though I get the "are you sure" dialog box after selecting a username and clicking on Show Passwords in the Passcards Manager.

I noticed no one replied to the following so I will, just in case localhost hasn't figured it out by now

How do I add a bookmark that opens in de sidebar? The classic add to sidebar javascript doesn't work and the bookmark properties don't have the needed option.

I don't want the sidebar to show my bookmarks, I want sidebar pages to show in there.

I don't use the sidebar so I'm not sure I understand the first question but if you don't want the sidebar to show your bookmarks you can remove that in Tabs. Use the down arrow to customize what's available in the sidebar to check or uncheck.

Even worse, where's my bookmarks toolbar?

You have to use the Customize Toolbars button (has a "wrench" tool icon) to add the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items". I had a hard time finding it... seems it was just labled "Bookmarks" with no icon (the regular Bookmarks has an icon) but when I dragged it to the Toolbar, a box labled "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" appeared. When I closed the Customization window, all my old Bookmarks Toolbar items appeared, since I had imported all my data from my Mozilla profile during the Install process..

If you import your bookmarks at a later time, or have created a new profile and then import your bookmarks, You'll need to open the Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks window, select your OLD Personal Toolbar folder and then use Edit > Set as Bookmarks Toolbar folder. Alternately, drag the folders you wish to use in the existing Personal Toolbar folder, which will have the Edit > Set as Bookmarks Toolbar folder. greyed out.

When I'm on a page and I want a new tab, I'll hit ctrl-enter (or some icon). This new tab should NOT show the same page I was on when I requested the tab. This is an inlogical feature comming from IE. This slows down the browsing, slows down the opening of a new tab.

You can change the Tab-opening behaviour in Tools > Options > Tabbed Browseing using the drop-down arrows. Change it from Current Tab to Blank Tab.

BIG problems when you create a new profile and choose to place it in a custom location such as D:\Netscape\Profiles\profilename .

In addition to toolbar issues, the site controls options screen is completely disabled, meaning you can't enable Images, Java, Javascript or cookies....

I'm going over to the Prototype Feedback area to see what others might have posted on that problem

Thanks Alice for tip how to "show / enable" Personal Bookmarks Folder.
This procedure should be automatically performed in the later editions of Netscape. That is what I think, because this is impossible to achieve by standard user. He/She just want them there!

I still didn`t figure out how to add extentions which I use- mentioned early.

Another problem: When displaying .pdf file within browser window, Netscape is halted. I don`t know if this is the result of Adobe Acrobat 6.0, or something else.

Otherwise: pleased with it! Very.

Note:
I think that this thread should be as feedback oriented, not how to disobey / bypass EULA....

12 Jan, 2005 9:58 am My first opinions about Netscape Browser Prototype 2 [sdp=51072]

Hi everyone,
so I was testing now the new prototype about 3 days and have to say that is is quicker but only little bit when compated to NS 7.2. I changed my mind about the greenish interface and even started to like some aspects of it, anyway I still think more stanrardized interface would be better for the average user. And when Fiferox us used as core why I cant install other themes (they just dissapear after installing tham, in Prototype 1 at least an error message came)?
So what I dislike about the prototype, its not called Navigator, its programmed by some outsourcers and has a feature to display pages as IE and exist only for Win, more than enought to not to use it. I would suppose that Mozilla Suite (used to be called Sea Monkey previously) is now the real Netscape rather than this.
Anyway technical aspects: it somehow crashed once and I wasnt able to use it (as only the grey underskin was showed -I have also a screenshot but how can I post is here?) until I manually delete the profile. Other problem is that is is opening submenus which should be opened as new frames as new tabs on the site esprit.de for e.g., and this works fine NS 7.2. One intresting thing more, whe I tryed to use the mail button in the personal toolbar is, it showed correcty that I had 3 unread messages in Netscape (Messenger / Mail) 7.2 and even opened it when I clicked on it but when I clicked on new message it opened Outlook Express -very disturbing.

12 Jan, 2005 10:59 am Esprit.de works with Firefox 1.0 [sdp=51076]

Guess what I just found out (I didnt test it before writing previous message as I needed to connect one clean testing PC to my network)? Esprit.de is working normal with Firefox 1.0.
Should this mean that those canadians even messed up the Firefox/Gecko engine?
I am afraid yes and also that the new Netscape (maybe 8) would not show pages same as Mozilla and Firefox.
