Hrm, it's a shame even the new theme is kinda ugly. Lots of needless complexidy and too bad the Firefox addons wouldn't work with the IE side of things, either.

I did not try to uninstall beta, and now both profiles have the same Winscape theme. I had imported the beta settings, but, true to form, the Tab-crazy NS8 struck again, overriding my previously chosen settings.
I had set up four webmail accounts, but they are gone, and System mail is still around, but like the previous one, on the far right and not detected in Customize.
I am too tired to fight, especially with my Thunderbird problems. I forgot TB was my default mail client.. Whose fault is it?

Are they going to make NS8 for Mac????? I hope they do.........
Well, have to wait a little while.

I'm sure that the Macintosh version will be released. In the meantime, I'm waiting the for Linux version of Netscape 8.0.

Netscape 8.0 still seems to be using the same installer that was used in the prototype, pre-beta, and beta releases that restricts users from installing that don't meet the exact system requirements, for hardware and software, even if their system is fully capable of running the software.

The above error is the message I recive on my PC that has 63 MB RAM. I see the error using both the full installer and the stub-online installer.

running a pentium233 128 mb ram.
will it run well on my system or is 7.2 better suited for my system.
Also is it recommended to delete netscape 7.2 before upgrading.

It now appears that the Netscape 8.0 download page now reports Netscape 8.0.1.

The size of the full installer has changed from 13,559KB in 8.0 to 13,529KB in 8.0.1; the net installer's size remains unchanged. I don't know what's new in 8.0.1, as there's no current documentation in the release notes, nor can I install Netscape 8.0.1.

Can't say I am really impressed with the new one so far . I don't hink it renders as fast as version 7.2 does . Don't like the themes they used for this setup . I'll probably stay mostly with 7.2 and firefox for the main browsers .

Thanks for pointing out.

I noticed a Full Installer link labelled "Trouble Downloading", it was not there when I downloaded Netscape 8.0.

I also noticed following

Seems like now you can turn off Internet Explorer engine during installation.

Now, the UserAgent for Netscape 8.0.1 is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050519 Netscape/8.0.1

As compared to Gecko/20050512 Netscape/8.0 for Netscape 8.0

Which version of Firefox is used for the new Netscape 8.0.1?

That would be a big mistake, missing three documented critical security vulnerabilities that were patched in Firefox 1.0.4. But according to today's version of that same page, AOL have already released NS 8.0.1 with the same fixes as FF 1.0.4.

That AOL is even maintaining a public security alerts page is groundbreaking for that company. After years of neglect, I'm almost optimistic that AOL have begun to get serious about maintaining the Netscape browser, making it safer than the security backwater that was Netscape 7.

Jugding from the Gecko revision (rv:1.7.5) it is Firefox 1.0-based. The Gecko string is just the date that the browser was compiled.
