[sdp=61286] |

Netscape has pulled 8.0.3.1 because of issues. They went back to 8.0.2 as offical download.
Subject changed from "Netscape8.0.3 PULLED 8.0.2 Offical Download" by Antony - 29.7.2005

Please see this post .
According to Mr. Jay Garcia ,
8.0.3.1 was pulled until some critical issues are fixed and a patch becomes available.

At time of posting, no further explanation was given by either Netscape or Mr. Jay Garcia .

This is not good. Makes one think v8.0.3.1 was a slapdash release.
But then, who knows? I could be wrong.
v8.0.2 was a real improvement over previous betas except that it crashes almost always from 11pm onwards. Very strange. At other times, it's stable.

From NetscapeProduct,
8.0.3.1 was pulled temporarily due to a bug effecting downloading for some users. We've isolated the problem and a patch will be issued shortly.
Thanks for your patience.

I have been using 8.0.3.1 very little, and, it has worked better than earlier versions, for me (fewer of those dreadful tabs!).
But it was obvious that something was wrong when they had, originally, said that four issues where addressed (probably the never seen 8.0.3), which were pared down to two with 8.0.3.1. This is incredibly sloppy.

FYI: The Secunia link is to the Netscape site, which offers 8.0.2.
Now, what is the real story?

The Secunia Security Advisory was issued on July 26, and the Netscape Product Announcement is dated July 29....
Edited to remove poor choice of words. My bad!

AFAIK users who have already installed 8.0.3.1 and who are not having problems should stay with 8.0.3.1 since it is MORE secure than 8.0.2.
Jay Garcia has posted additional information, here:
Netscape's Netscape Browser Forum
| Quote: | If you and others had been following the discussions and posts by several users complaining about not being able to download using 8.0.3.1 then you would understand WHY 8.0.3.1 was pulled, we will NOT continue to provide this version. And I DID announce it but not in the announcements section. I also provided a link to the archives so users not happy with 8.0.3.1 can download a previous version until this is patched and re-spun. The download problem is universal enough to warrant a re-spin, but not experienced by "some" users. I can't d'load using 8.0.3.1 either.

Oh Lord! O.K., perhaps a poor choice of words. However, if I couldn't download, I sure as heck would be "reverting" to an earlier version...

I just wanted to clarify that Netscape did not advise 8.0.3.1 users to revert to 8.0.2, although users having download problems may wish to do so.
Alternately, those users having problems downloading with Netscape 8.0.3.1 may wish to switch to another browser in the interim, if worried about the security issues in Netscape 8.0.2. I would suggest Firefox 1.0.6.

Not to join this "revert" wording issue, but I would like to simply explain it. And I have more interesting thing to post.

Netscape did revert back the offering to 8.0.2.
Perhaps, the word "revert" was from SillyDog701?
Well, thanks for the message quote, let's see what Mr Garcia said.
Firstly, Mr Jay Garcia said, (he) DID announce it but not in the announcements section.
Was he expecting people to read every post he made? Gee.
Secondly, Netscape 8.0.3.1 was retracted and the offering was reverted back to 8.0.2 was that simply because our good friend, Mr Jay Garcia , who had problem with Netscape 8.0.3.1?

Yes, you're the culprit, Antony

| Alice wrote: | As to your issues with Jay Garcia............. no comment. | Oh, I have no issues with Mr Garcia , except I don't understand why such demanding (of everybody to read his every single post) was used in Netscape's supporting forum, and making people feel that Netscape 8.0.3.1 was pulled because it did not work for him.
