SillyDog701 worries about Jay Garcia's safety
It seems like Hurricane Katrina is quite serious in Louisiana state, in particular the "Big Easy" area, New Orleans.
SillyDog701 would like to express our concern about the safety of Mr. Jay Garcia , and his good pal, DrDean.
Mr. Jay Garcia is the man behind The Unofficial Netscape FAQ (UFAQ) and the admin of Netscape secure newsgroups. He has provided great help to Netscape community over those years.
Earlier this year, SillyDog701 discovered condemnable and unethical cybersquatting behaviour conducted by Mr. Jay Garcia.
SillyDog701 holds no grudges.

This picture resembles to a picture of an Australian flag outside the Australia Embassy (Jakarta), being bomb damaged on 9th September 2004.
SillyDog701 would like to pray for safe return of all New Orleans residents when the hurricane is over.

Current situation on New Orleans...
The city had no power, no drinking water, dwindling food supplies, widespread looting, smoke rising on the horizon and the sounds of gunfire.
Mississippi and Alabama are not looking good.

80% of New Orleans in under water. possibly 20-30 ft.
The city is mostly under sea level, and is(was) protected by levees. There have been two major breaches. It sound pretty awful.

I just heard on the news that they are desperately trying to evacuate New Orleans, and the period of evacuation could last as long as four months.
I can't begin to imagine what those poor people must feel, having lost everything.

I have a friend who moved from Maryland to southeast of New Orleans a few years ago, his house has sustained 1.2 million dollars worth of damage. He's safe though, he went to Oklahoma when the storm was coming.

Believe it or not, you can even see Katrina's impact way up here in Massachusetts. What I thought was rain outside was really heavy wind -- heavy enough to down a relatively large tree limb just outside. And that's just the beginning of this thing!

The sutuation down south, on the gulf coast is looking very bad. From what I've seen on TV, most of the city of New Orleans looks under water. Other cities along the coast aren't looking good either. I just wish well for all people effected by this storm.

The remnants of Katrina were felt here in Pennsylvania, as well. Last night we had heavy thunderstorms, and some significant wind gusts. And about thirty miles away, a pair of F1 tornadoes struck down.

Gangs of armed men were reported to be roaming the streets after a Wal-Mart had its entire stock of weapons stolen.

Yet more that I don't understand about our own government . . .
Ronnie outlined some plans to me last night in which either the government or the Red Cross or somebody could supply the victims with food and drinking water. They could bring in water purifiers that would filter and clean the water of salt, bacteria, and other things that people wouldn't want to be drinking, since there's water all around them. Helicopters could always land on high buildings and deliver the needed diesel fuel to run those machines. Plus, they could always deliver simple-to-cook food such as what's supplied in the army -- things that don't need refrigeration and only need an open flame and water to cook. Take rice, for example. Yes, it's a good idea, but for some reason I doubt exactly that will happen, because people will want 'good' food that can easily spoil.

Well, you can't purify those water (mixed with sewage water, rubbish, petrol) with small water purifying kits (usually for homes).
How can US government and emergency workers guarantee *purified* water are safe?
I simply don't think you want to hear things like, particularly if you are American... "one of the world's most technology advanced countries is providing its citizens purified sewage water for drinking."
Also, when people are shooting helicopters and trucks delivering necessary supplies. The first concern should be the safety of those drivers and the safety of helicopters and trucks. Those lawless people are the one stopping emergency workers from US government. I think we shall blame those riots for increased death toll.
