Postby Edward » Tue 27 Sep, 2011 4:47 pm

The SeaMonkey Council has released SeaMonkey 2.4, for Linux, Windows and MacOS.

It can be downloaded from the SeaMonkey web site and the Release Notes are here. There are several Mozilla platform changes included with this version.

Just testing if anything works. since this morning, I have tried to use Seamonkey, before and after the update, as well as Thunderbird, and they locked up after processing a single e-mail. Outlook Express behaves fine.
At this point, i am positive that I have a mail problem, but not sure about the browser. That's why I am using FF 3.6.23. I may have a mozilla disease.

I do not let the software update automatically. I check for new versions almost daily and once it's available, I download, remove the old and install the new. I had too many issues in the past (esp. under Windows) when software updated by itself to new versions.

I, have, never, allowed automatic updates. In fact, I have, always been against autoupdates of any kind.
But, I choose to u7pdate, when I am ready, and, i have, never, had any issue.
I have said:
I have tried to use Seamonkey, before and after the update, as well as Thunderbird, and they locked up after processing a single e-mail.
, which should tell that there was no problem with 2.3.3, and there is a Thunderbird problem. A few moments ago, I opened Seamonkey 2.4, and the usual two tabs worked fine.
But, when I went into mail, I tried to compact, manually, as i, always, do, the Inbox of my primary account, and it did nothing, although some 30 MB of mail were deleted, and the Trash emptied.
Some mail which had several jpg files ended up being split into a dozen e-mails (not seen in Outlook Express).
I am puzzled by this behavior, because two different profiles act up, in Seamonkey, and the behavior is the same in Thunderbird.
I will start by uninstalling Seamonkey, and reinstalling a fresh download, and wing it from there.
After uninstalling, cleaning up the Registry, and reinstalling, it froze, again, when I looked, and made a change at the Mail preferences, but, later, it froze within the browser.
Now, I am working with a brand new profile. No mail account, yet.
by the way, the original message was placed with 6.02, but I am editing with SM 2.4.
It locked up in SM, where I tried to all this line. For now, at least, SM is no longer default.

1. Unlikely, but --- Is there any chance that TB and SM are both pointing to (sharing) the same mail folder?

2. "Some mail which had several jpg files ended up being split into a dozen e-mails"
- Corrupted email(s now). You should manually (WordPad) purge them. (Remember to delete .msf also.) Examine the last preceding (bottom) email in the file; it MAY also be corrupted.

3. Does Webmail access work cleanly?

Edit ---
Well, that's what I get for replying in chronological sequence before reading a later thread on the same topic.
(Re. 2): A malformed email can be valid in some mail clients but radically confuse others.
