Setting Up Newsgroups: Need Help

Postby James » Mon 18 Jun, 2012 8:23 pm

I'm having authentication problems setting up my newsgroups. I'm using the exact same server settings as I've used in Thunderbird but for some reason, every time I complete the process a menu pops up asking for my username and password and when I fill this in the menu disappears and then reappears asking for the information once more saying it could not authenticate my information. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't used newsgroups for ages. But could that be an issue with newsgroup server instead?

But why would it work with Thunderbird and SeaMonkey? I'm using the exact same settings.

Have you tried quitting Thunderbird and SeaMonkey? As in only one connection from Opera.

Antony, when you say quitting I'm assuming you mean, closing down rather than uninstalling and that is what I've always done. I never open two mail programs or browsers at the same time. After checking out the server settings in both TB and SM, I closed them down, opened up Opera and copied them exactly in the same manner. When that did not work, I made some changes to the authentication rules but that also did not work. Surely there must be a workaround for this. I've asked in the Opera forum but no one there was of any help.

Sorry for the poor choice of wording, I believe you were well aware Antony doesn't speak English. (And that was the excuse.)

Quitting is more of Mac OS behaviour, as when users “close” the application (window), most applications are still running, just not having the application window occupying desktop space. And I was referring to closing/exiting (other applications) completely.
