SillyDog701 December/end of the year 2008 online chat

Postby beanboy89 » Thu 04 Dec, 2008 8:04 pm

It has been quite a while since we've had a SillyDog701 online chat, and since the end of the year is approaching, I figure we should host an online chat.

I was thinking either the weekend of December 13-14 or weekend of December 20-21 would be acceptable weekends to hold the chat.

I added a 'no preference' option to the poll for those who aren't really fussed on the date.

Either date is fine by me, I'm more interested in the actual time of the chat, since I'm working some weekends now.

Most likely, I would suggest the usual time 0:01AM (GMT).

I'd say it's too late for it to be 13-14 December now. I guess 20-21 is the only viable option?

Yes.

Anyone like the usual time 0:01 (GMT 0)?

And what time would that be here on the East Coast of the US?

That would work, but 1500 GMT (the other usual time) would be even better. As I recall, we Aussies had to be up in the morning early for the chat last time. Surely it is time for the Americans to be up bright and early for the chat?! :P

According to a Timer Zone Converter I used:

00:01:00 Saturday December 20, 2008 in GMT converts to
19:01:00 Friday December 19, 2008 in America/New_York

So it looks like 00:01 GMT translates to 7 PM of the day before for the Eastern US time zone.

Sorry guys, I have been really busy during the last few days. I haven't really organised this chat properly. My apologies.

I know it is very close to Christmas and everybody is busy. I would suggest running an online Chat for two sessions.
The first one is on 15:01 (GMT 0) Sat 20th December 2008 and the second one is on 0:01 (GMT 0) Sun 21st December 2008.

The first chat 15:01 (GMT 0) Sat 20th December 2008 will be translated to (assuming my conversion is correct):
2:01AM 21st Dec Sydney daylight saving
12:01AM 21st Dec Perth daylight saving
3:01PM 20th Dec London
10:01AM 20th Dec EST
7:01AM 20th Dec PST

The second chat 0:01 (GMT 0) Sun 21st December 2008 will be translated to (assuming my conversion is correct):
11:01AM 21st Dec Sydney daylight saving
9:01AM 21st Dec Perth daylight saving
0:01AM (midnight) 21st Dec GMT 0 London
7:01PM 20th Dec EST
4:01PM 20th Dec PST

Please be advised that we will be using a different IRC server this time.
The server is [tt]irc.austnet.org[/tt] (port [tt]6667[/tt])
and the chat room is [tt]#sillydog701[/tt]

Again, you will need an IRC (chatroom) client to join our chat.

(website about the AustNet server: http://blog.austnet.org/servers/ )

If you can attend either of the chat session, please do join us for the end of the year online chat. Hope to see you online.

Awesome. I'll be at the first session and perhaps the second session, depending whether or not I just decide to stay up all night.

I guess that means I would have to download Mozilla or
Firefox to get the IRC chat, am I right?
I am using IE/OE now. XP and no phone connected to PC.
I have no idea which one is the best to download, so
would appreciate someone telling me..

Hello everyone, it's been quite awhile hasn't it?
