Simply too rich?

Postby Antony » Tue 02 Oct, 2007 5:08 am

Are you simply far too rich? And feel that your latest gadgets (iPod touch, iPhone, and MacBook Pro) are not enough to show off?

Computer Choppers has a solution for you. You can turn your MacBook Pro with gold housing (real gold) and gold painted matching keyboard.

A 24kt gold plate MacBook Pro will set you back US$1200 to $1500, depending on the current gold price. Of course, you will need to supply your own MacBook Pro. More information at Computer Choppers. (from TUAW)

I am not that rich.

Seems like a waste of gold to me.

Seems like a waste of money, gold, and a MacBook Pro. Plus, it makes it a lot more likely that your laptop might get stolen.

Electroplating normally adds a layer that is only a few molecules thick, so the amount of actual gold added to this computer might be very small indeed. Most of the cost of plating would be due to labor costs.

Gold is also very soft, so I would expect this layer to possibly be susceptible to damage.

Thanks for the information, profman.
