Slow XP

I have XP installed on one of my hard drives, and I downloaded SP1, and installed it..My machine now runs slower...I went to remove SP1, but it is not listed in my add/remove programs....Can I reinstall XP without loosing everything ???, or is there another way to restore it ?? Thanks.....

I won't recommend removing SP1, but would suggest not to enable those unnecessary multimedia features, such as NEW Windows Media Player.
