Some programs cannot uninstalled

Postby Fulvio » Thu 12 Aug, 2010 1:03 pm

I like to be able to uninstall any program in my Add/Remove that I don't need, but this is not always the case.
I feel that I don't need Apple Mobile Support, at this time, and not only I had two identically described items, but the larger of the two gave me this response:"feature you are trying to use is on a network which is unavailable.
I get such junk after iTunes installation, and I did not see a way to select it out, and where is it?
In another case, I was trying to uninstall Dawn, a program which I got long ago, and never used. It is a Mail something or other. I get this message: "feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM." Meaning what?
I would appreciate any useful suggestions.

The Apple Mobile Device Support is part of iTunes, and is necessary for iPhone, iPad, and iPod to function correctly with iTunes.

Anyhow, you might want to follow this article: iTunes: How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service on Mac OS X (Apple article: HT1747).

I know what it is for, and I do have a couple iPods which are full. To me that part of the program takes space, and nothing else. The fact that I had two Apple Mobile Support of different size makes wonder.
Anyway, do you a link for a PC? Or did I miss something.

Sorry, copied the Windows link.

You can try Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP (Article: HT1925)
Or Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP (Article: TS1567) if you need to stop or restart the service.

Antony, the link does not help, because I had gotten this response, when I tried to uninstall:
"feature you are trying to use is on a network which is unavailable"
. No explanation was given about what it meant.
Just for the record, as I said in my original post, I had two identically described items in my Add/Remove. I was able to remove, normally, the smaller, about 11 MB item, but the larger one, over 30 MB, gave me the above response, and could not be removed.
