Postby richard mitnick » Tue 02 Dec, 2008 1:38 pm

Songbird 1.0 is released.

I use Winamp 5.543,
Streams Live365
Good library function for my media files
Connects with All Music Guide for background on musicians
Links with Shoutcast

RealPlayer 11 Plus
Good library function
Fair background
Excellent list of internet audio streams and terrestrial radio streams

and WMP11.
Excellent library function
Excellent syncing to mp3 players
Excellent on ripping
Excellent on playing mp4 video files

Zune
Fabulous player of my media

Does anyone know what would be the advantages of Songbird?

Fulvio should know. I "think" he uses (or has used) Songbird. Wow! You have a lot of players, Richard. I only use Windows Media Player so I guess I've no idea what I'm missing, eh?!

James-

It it depends how much you do. WMP is fine for most listening an videos, great library function, great syncing and ripping.

I use Winamp a lot in my office because it will save Live365 streams as bookmarks. i need in the office to be able to click away fast from one thing to another, if anyone gets pissy about Aaron Copand, or Alice Coltrane, or Alice Cooper, whatever.

Also, Winamp shows mono vs stereo and kbits on streams, and has a great hook-up with All Music Guide. Just start a track, and the AMG article comes up, very convenient, and as good as but different from Wikipedia.

RealPlayer is really legacy with me. No more stereo indicator, no more Live365.

Zune is really just a player, but a great player. And, look what happens on my monitor if I just start an album in Zune and don't touch the computer-sort of like a screen saver:

My wife has a Zune but I don't. I'm not sure if I told you (or you know from past posts) but her son was on the ground level of the Zune's implementation before moving back to the X-box 360. He's one of the top execs with MS ... one of only 32 distinguished software engineers in their history. Needless to say, we're very proud of him. Anyway... she gets pretty much whatever she whines for (but since I don't whine... I don't get! ROFL). Anyway... if I want a Zune, I'll buy my own. And I just may do that! Talk to you later, Richard.

Indeed. And I'm such a know-nothing! LOL When he and his wife visit with us, he generally untangles our messes, helps us network, sets up our X-box 360 so that we can communicate with him, brings us games and so forth. He was also one of the developers of the Windows 95 registry, later worked on Windows 98 before transferring over to the original Xbox. The guy is truly an amazing young man, particularly because he is so self-effacing. Anyway... holy cats seems a good response. Take care, Richard. I've gotta get moving.

Although I prefer Apple iPod to Microsoft Zune, there's nothing wrong with Zune.

Even US President-Elect Obama uses a Zune.
