Specifying Converted Profile location

Postby RootsMan » Thu 19 Dec, 2002 4:02 pm

Greetings,

OS: Windows XP Professional
Browser: Netscape 7.01 streamline

I had been using Netscape Communicator 4.79 and finally decided to make the move to Netscape 7.01 streamline. So far, no problems. :)

I have a few questions about installing Netscape 7.01.

Is there an option to specify the directory where converted profiles are stored during the installation of Netscape 7.01 or creation of new profiles?

Is there an option to specify that Netscape 7.01 not add the extra [random characters].slt directory during installation?

Is there an option to specify that Netscape 7.01 not automatically add servers (news, email) from other profiles found on the system to the new profile being created?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, there no way that you decide on a location just like you can do with the program. You will have to wait until Netscape has done its deed. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7moveprof.html for an excellent description.

I left out the last two question, oops! Everyone has a different .slt character combination. As for the final question, I would be grateful if everything is transferred. You can always remove it. I heard of problems in getting all the folders. Those Profiles are something to cuss about.

Thanks for the info.

My "data" directory, independent of any profile location and resides on a different physical disc drive, gets automatically backed up each morning. So I had to move the Netscape 7.01 profile to my data directory to make sure that my mail gets backed up each day.

I just did a search and replace for all the paths within prefs.js.

All my mail, with sub folders, and address book are accessible from the new location. Then I just deleted the unwanted "servers."

I did something like that once. Excellent way.
