Spellcheck for Moz 1.4a

Postby jksteinhauer » Fri 28 Mar, 2003 8:47 pm

I just downloaded, or rather - installed the Spellchecker for 1.4a from mozdev.org (I clicked the install button rather than the download button - said 'install successful) I then closed Mozilla and reopened - no spellcheck appears in Mail/News taskbar ??? What did I miss here? Suggestions?

I do not see any spellchecker in 1.3, which I am using now.
I am against spellcheckers, anyway, because they bug me. I am a terrible proofreader (I don't). But, if can find anything, I will let you know.

JK,

There should be a "Spell" button at the top of your "Compose" window.

Not in 1.3. I have all buttons enabled, and they are File(?), Next, Delete, Junk, Print.

My 1.3 has a "Spell" button in the Compose Window. Either you are looking in the wrong place, or don't have Spell Checker installed. You should see:
Send -- Address -- Attach -- Spell -- Security -- Save

I really installed 1.3, and I did not do a custom install. There is no Spell button. I am working directly from the unzipped file with 1.4a(i.e. not installed). I am going to exit 1.3, and see what is 1.4a.

Fulvio,

Did you install the Spell Checker at this site:
http://spellchecker.mozdev.org/installation.html

With 1.4a, I do not have an installed program, and it should have not worked. I ignored them, and download, and nothing showed up. It should work with 1.3, but I never looked for a spell checker.

Fulvio,

We don't seem to be communicating. JK installed the Spell Checker for 1.4a from the Mozilla Spell Checker site, for which I just posted the link (http://spellchecker.mozdev.org/installation.html).

Mozilla does not come with a Spell Checker in the program itself. It must be installed separately from the above site (http://spellchecker.mozdev.org/installation.html).

You don't have a "Spell" button because you have not installed the Spell Checker from the Mozilla Spell Checker site (http://spellchecker.mozdev.org/installation.html) ...

I'm using Moz 1.3 - very good, BTW - and had installed the spellchecker around a week ago (from the 'mozdev' site as Ramona says).
Having looked - yes, the 'spell' button is there. I had to look, because the beauty of the checker is that it simply autoruns as soon as you click to 'send' the email. It works well, learns words efficiently, and takes up the minimum amount of screen space needed to do the job. A lesson there for some other programs (such a M/s Word for example). :D :D :D
In fact, it's a great tool. Hopefully it'll soon be an standard item (or option?) in Mozilla without an extra download.

Mike, and also Ramona,
yes,I installed Spell checker from the site, but I was doing some tests by just opening compose, and under those conditions it is greyed out. I just missed until I reply to a message.
I believe what you say, and I will test it by mispelling every word.
It may need to be told to ignore first names, and e-mail addresses, but I find it irritating when it gets upset on my first name, or my abbreviated signature at the end of a message. I, rather have the red marks which I find in Eudora, or Word and many other programs, which do not take any extra space at all. I will see. In fact, I intend to have as message, my text here, where intentionally did not have a space, or spellchecker, the way I have here and above.

Mike,
I sent the first message, exactly like you saw it in my previous reply.
There was no autorun, so everything came through unchecked. I will have to look for a preference to do such thing. For the second time, I clicked on Spell, prior to sending
It did not mind Spell checker, but did not like spellchecker. Greyed, which should be good for you and me, but is not American English spelling. Top choice was "greed". It caught use of my common misspellings, i.e. mispelling. All the punctiution stuff was ignored. My fp was not liked at all.
and, in my second try it must have known that punctuation is the correct spelling, it had no suggestion.
Where do you set to autorun? It goes one word at the time, and the suggestions are atrocious. But, I would appreciate any enlightment.
fp

Follow up. I found the preference in mail and newsgroups|composition.

Thanks for the input guys. I repeated the process once again and now I do have functional Spellcheck for 1.4a.

Thanks again.
