Spellcheck for Netscape Navigator

Postby ccchuck » Sat 21 Aug, 2004 1:55 pm

I'm sure this has been covered and I just missed it- is there a spellcheck for navigator similar to iespell?

( another greenhorn on here just what we needed...)

Hi ccchuck, and welcome to the Forum!

No spellcheck for text input other than Mail & Newsgroups. Sorry! A lot of Netscape/Mozilla users have this small program: tinySpell

BTW, greenhorns are most welcome, and that's what this Forum is all about.

I've used tinyspell but it and I don't work well together-
I've seen discussion of spellcheck for the other versions of mozilla- are any of those going to work with Netscape 7.2?

ccchuck,

Yes, I just tried the SpellCheck extension, and it does work on Netscape 7.2. How nice, as I have stayed away from extensions, as they are usually more trouble than they're worth. I will put this one to the test, but for now it certainly works. I purposely misspelled several words, highlighted the entire sentence, right click, and there is a "Check spelling" option added to the context menu. 8-)

You can install [tt]spellcheck.xpi[/tt] from: gunnars.net
OR by clicking the "Spellchecker Extension" link below.

First:
Enable Software Downloads - Edit | Preferences | Advanced
Click the link: Spellchecker Extension
A dialog window will appear which will warn you that you should only install software from sources that you trust, etc. Go ahead and click "Install"
Shut down and restart Netscape

I haven't tried the Spellchecker on Mozilla 1.7.2 yet, but will...

Ramona

EDIT: 4:47pm

I should add that it isn't necessary to highlight the text you wish to spellcheck...

Also works on Mozilla 1.7.2

This is an excellent reminder to me that there are several add-on features available to users of Mozilla and Netscape browsers.

Thanks to ccchuck and Ramona for bringing up this discussion!

I have installed Spellchecker Extension on my Mozilla 1.7.2., and it works wonderfully. I'm not trying to beat Ramona with this, but I am quite interested in helping posters spell correctly.

Now, no one has an excuse to post with misspelled words, although a grammar checker would also be nice. :)

I guess I'll need a new profile.

Here's a blog that points you to perhaps a version designed for Firefox.

Spellchecker for Firebird / Mozilla!

It points to a xpi file on the same site as Ramona mentioned. These files are found from the page http://cgi29.plala.or.jp/mozzarel/ . I have not yet tracked down more info on the source of these files.

[Edit: See Spell Checker for Firebird thread over at MozillaZine.]

I don't think 0.7 addons work in 0.9x

Al: Take a look at the page SpellBound 0.6.0 Spell checker for Firefox 0.9+ that I located by looking through the Spell Checker for Firebird thread over at MozillaZine. I do not yet use Firefox so I can not offer much help past this point.
