Start Page?

Postby James » Tue 26 Jul, 2011 9:33 pm

Would someone explain to me the rationale behind the blank start page... please? When we go online... we must have some destination in mind. It seems to me that making a blank page the start page is counter-productive since you're still going to have to move from that towards something else. So... why not make that something else your start page? And if you argue that you do not always want to go to that particular start page... it still beats going to a blank since you can still move off of that start page with a single click to wherever you choose to go. Either way... the blank page idea of starting is confusing to me. I'm all ears for those who would like to explain it to me. :)

Having no home page means that the browser starts up faster, and I sometimes launch the browser to install a theme that I just finished tweaking, or check a setting. In that case I do not need to open any web pages.

Perhaps back in old days (especially for those not living in USA with fast connection), like Anonymosity said, loading each page does take time. And some ISPs charge quota on the amount of content downloaded.

A bit off topic, but It's like there are some people would try to save a few cents* (*actually hardly even one cent in many situations base on my calculation) by rushing to switch off completely all appliances (or computers).

LOL... yeah. I heard someone else talk about how "long" it takes for a page to load compared with a blank page. BUT for those opening a blank page, they're still (most people anyway... not the specialized instance anonymosity gave) going to need to click beyond that blank page and load a regular page so whatever time they saved initially is somewhat lost. And how fast, after all, do we have to be? Oh my word! I've wasted five whole seconds! This is life-changing.
