Streamline Japanese Build 3

Postby Antony » Fri 03 Jan, 2003 8:20 pm

Streamline 7.01 Japanese Build number 3 is available for testing. (12.7MB)
    New changes since Build number 2:
  • Confirmation text should now in Japanese. (Do you want to install Netscape 7.01 Streamline (Japanese)?)
  • Flash player has been updated 6.0.65.0. (However I can't verify if it is a Japanese version)
  • Customised version of "userChrome.css" and "userContent.css". This is more suitable for Japanese auduance. Note: only apply to new profile created with this Streamline 7.01 Japanese.
  • Default font size has been reduced, and believed to be more suitable for Japanese users. Note: only apply to new profile created with this Streamline 7.01 Japanese.

Changes in userChrome.css
Code: Select all
#urlbar {
  line-height: 1.0 !important;
}

.textbox-input-box{
  line-height: 1.0 !important;
}

In userContent.css
Code: Select all
/* JLP Customize Start */
*:root { line-height:1.2 }
table { line-height:inherit } /* bug-jp 2264 */
/* JLP Customize End */

/* Input box */
input { line-height:1.0 !important; }

In winpref.js
Code: Select all
pref("font.size.variable.ja", 14);
pref("font.size.fixed.ja", 14);
// changed from 16 to 14.

Build number 3 looking good, haven't encounter any error yet.
I can still see the katakana and hiragana even though I'm not using Japanese OS

Build number 3 issue

I received following email from Joji,

This seems to appear both English and Japanese. Is this intentional?

Seems OK.

Both files are created on a new profile. But userChrome.css seems to
contain a typo.
"..textbox-input-box{" must be ".textbox-input-box{" to work correctly.
Note the extra period in the beginning.

Seems OK.

A few more suggestions.

1. After installation, we can't read info701JA.txt again. How about adding this on ...\Netscape\, like readme.txt?

2. I think adding Google search plugin is not a bad idea. You might want to use the attached files (GoogleJapan.src and GoolgeJapan.png). They are from Japanese Mozilla language pack. (English plugin have some problems on Japanese environment.)

Hope this helps, and looking foward to a new build (maybe final).

Build 3 issue

Postby Antony » Thu 09 Jan, 2003 1:17 am

I the Flash is the same file that can also display Japanese.
I will fix the mistake in userChrome.css in next build.

1. After installation, we can't read info701JA.txt again. How about adding this on ...\Netscape\, like readme.txt?

The info701JA.txt was intented to be displayed during (actually before) installing the file, I can copy the information to the REadMe.txt file.

2. I think adding Google search plugin is not a bad idea. You might want to use the attached files (GoogleJapan.src and GoolgeJapan.png). They are from Japanese Mozilla language pack. (English plugin have some problems on Japanese environment.)
Okay, I will need to check the Licence Agreement about if I can add different search engine, since the licence specified that all search links shouldn't be changed.

Thanks for feedback.

Hello, form Japan.

Kucing,
info701JA.txt is a SillyDog's lisence agreement text which is appeared when you start install. I guess it is internal name. And the only way to see it again is to restart the install precedure.

Google serach is not included in build 3, I think. If you have the serch plugin, it might be from English version. To make it sure, uninstall N7, delete \searchplugin folder, then reinstall. Or install it in a new blank folder after uninstall.

I noticed you are using the word "Jap" several times. If you are not using the word intentionally, please refrain from using it. It is an insulting word used during (and after) WWII. Please use "Jp" or "Ja" instead.
If you are using it intentionally, well that's OK. Then this will be my last post here.

Second post. :)

I just started translating N7 Streamline page into Japanese.
Estimated working time is 7 days, but cause it's a large page, you know, it might take more days.

Hope I can finish before the release of the final version.

Information from info701JA.txt has been added into README.TXT
FIXEDAlso, README.TXT has been fixed to Japanese.

Okay,
I would like to know how to add this Google (JP) Search Plugin, it is to be used as from MySidebar?

Streamline Japanese build 4

Hello,
I've just completed Streamline Japanese Build 4
(build 1, 2 and 3 are all now renamed in the same FTP folder.)

    New/changes since Build number 3:
  • README.TXT file is now in Japanese.
  • Customised version of "userChrome.css" is now fixed.
  • info701JA.txt file is copied into README.TXT
  • Google (JP) Search Plugin is now included.

Hope this could be the final version.

Please provide feedbacks.

Antony,
Testing Build 4. Working fine here.

> README.TXT file is now in Japanese.

Confirmed.

> Customised version of "userChrome.css" is now fixed.

Confirmed.

> info701JA.txt file is copied into README.TXT

Well, it is shown during installation, but I couldn't find any hardcopy on my HD. The only Readme.txt I found is the NS original (without info701JA).
But it is not a critical issue, I think.

> Google (JP) Search Plugin is now included.

Working fine here, but as Kucing reported, it might cause problem on English system.

Kucing,
If all failed, have a try downloading a new seachplugin script from here;
http://www.google.com/mozilla/google.src
(You know Shift + Click, don't you?)
Then replace the old src. It should be here;
...\Netscape\searchplugins\GoogleJapan.src

The old plugin is using Shift-JIS conversion which is working on most Japanese sysetm, where the new one should use UTF-8 which should work on English system.

Mega\,
To use the Google plugin, go
Edit | Preferances | Navigator | Internet Seach.
Then change the default serch engine to Google.

Joji,
You should be able to find the README.TXT in the Netscape folder you installed to (such as C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape 7 ).

I don't exactly know what you mean here.
The link you gave above ( http://www.google.com/mozilla/google.src ) is from Google (English)... it does nothing related to Shift_JIS.
