Yes, I use the memCache setting of 2048, and it helps, but not enough!

Tonight the secnews is quite peppy, but I have definitely experienced the sluggishness on other occasions. I believe that is the news server and not the end user.

If there's no other issues(*) regarding to Netscape 7.1 Streamline Test Build 3, I will release it in a few days.

(*) Not the Resource Leakage issue or any problems from Netscape itself.

Anyone interested to see Navigator Stand-alone 7.1 from SillyDog701?

I don't see the "Print" icon in Mail window (toolbar), is that just the Streamline issue, or Netscape 7.1 removed it from toolbar?
I did not touch the Mail component... (In fact, I haven't printed mails for ages.)

In the Mail & Newsgroups Preferences, you have the option to enable/disable:

File, Next, Print, Stop, and Junk Icons...

Edward, you can get Home buttons, just about anywhere, which look like a house, an igloo(with Eskimo skin), etc. I get a Home button, Prefbar and Autoscroll with any Netscape or Mozilla.

I just installed build 3, and it was worked well. I set up a second Netscape Webmail acct., as default account. It was working ok, but exiting was locking up, but I figured if context click on the tab in the Quick launch toolbar, I could restore it, and thus close mail. My Webmail has done this or it is not logging in.
Resources are used, but I have been able to tame that with my Prefbar's Clear Cache.
Only glitch. This build did not produce a Navigator shortcut. No big deal. It had the IM, and Mail shortcuts, though, which are always guided to the circular file.

Resource Leak

Postby Don_HH2K » Sat 15 May, 2004 9:46 pm

What is the resource leak in NS7.1 in Win98, and how is it possible to recreate it (to make sure that I don't)

The resource leak is a flaw in Netscape 7.1 and Mozilla 1.4 that caused certain systems to deteriorate in performance and deplete system resources when running the program. It affects Windows 95, 98, and ME systems (Windows NT/2000/XP handle system resources differently, so this flaw does not adversely affect these OSes). A workaround is available (mentioned by Ramona in the second thread linked below).

NS 7.1 system (GDI) resource drainage in Win98
NS 7.1 Resource leak

As for recreating the leak, my best advice would be to run Netscape 7.1 on Windows 95, 98, or ME and witness if system resources deplete to abnormally low levels.

I guess I never noticed it, as I have been running 7.1 successfully on my ME machine and without my knowing on my 98SE AST Ascentia, which I could have sworn I was running 7.02 on until I took a good look at the splash screen.
