super moon today. beware!

Postby Antony » Sun 06 May, 2012 3:33 am

Today is the super moon day, the day when the moon is at its closest distance to earth. The super moon happens once a year. Today, the moon will be 356,953km from the earth at 1pm, although not as close as last year's super moon (356,577km), but still.

Last year, tsunami near Japan happened around super moon; the 2005 Pacific Tsunami occurred around where the moon is close to earth. A bit further back, Cyclone Tracy in Darwin, Australia in 1974; Hunter Valley floods in 1955; New England hurricane in 1938 all occurred around super moon.

Take extra care these few days, unless you live in Don's beautiful Boston or picturesque Quincy which is known to be a heaven-like place since it is not an earthquake prone zone, not on the hurricane prone path, and unlikely to have bushfire.

Oh, somehow, I trust the long range forecasts based on statistics and the moon movement more, which has been pretty accurate compared to the weather bureau, and certainly more accurate than the Domesday prediction. (I know Don hates statistics.)

We're here in Seattle and we saw it last evening. It was impressive. :)
