Ease up guys. Antony probably has a life, and yes SD701 is a big part of it, but the fact of the matter is that he's providing us with a nice service for free. So give him a little slack.

Hey, please share with us some forums which are maintained by non-volunteers.

Updating simply needs a decision and a process. Simple.

It was actually planned last month. However, the converting of database was, unfortunately, failed (timed out).

The solution of this requires offline database converting. Which means I will need to set up the web server in one of my computer, dump the DB, convert it, dump the database back.

Sorry, I've been a bit busy recently.

As the owner of a 233MHz server, I occasionally have that problem with my blog sfotware. If you don't mind knocking the entire site offline for an hour, what I typically do is physically unplug the machine's Ethernet, set SQL Server's default timeout period to something like 86400 seconds (1 day), then run whatever scripts need to be run. When it's done, I set the timeout period back, and plug it back in.

I'm assuming there's some way you can have your hosting provider disallow connections other than yours for some period of time?

Thank you for everybody's support on SillyDog701.

This forum will be upgraded to phpBB 3.x within the next week.

I do apologise for the delay. We had an unexpected hard disk failure (networked HDD) here at my work. As a result, my focus was shifted to recover whatever I can recover and backing up all other HDDs.

The failed HDD was ended up sending to a data recovery centre, Payam, and successfully recovered (most of the content). If you have disks failed, Payam provides good service and reasonable price. They accept international customers.

Good to hear the forum is finally being upgraded to the newer version of phpBB.

Would you be running a beta for members to test the new forum before going public?

Well, due the the time out in database conversion last time, I would need to set up a temporary server for database conversion. Obviously, I would like to keep the down time as little as possible.

Very, very nice to see SillyDog701 working fully again with historic posts as converted too!! Great and thanks!

I was in read-only mode during last weeks.

Antony, I'm still experiencing problems with "marking all forums read". When I click on "Mark all forums" there is a page renewal but as soon as I click on Read new Posts I see the very same posts available for reading that existed before I marked everything as being read. Has this glitch been addressed yet or is it something that exists solely with my own configuration?

Sorry, it is a glitch, and I don't have a solution yet.

If you click "Mark topics read" (in each individual sub-forum page), it should work.

It's a feature of the firewall software of that computer, and yes, it hides the OS information too. It's a Mac computer. :D

Oh wow J-M, that's interesting. Do you ever run into problems on web pages with it?
