Surface Tablet Prices Incorrect

Those of you eyeing a Microsoft Surface tablet won't have to cough up $1,000 or $2,000 for the privilege.
The rumor mill was buzzing yesterday after Swedish Website Webhallen listed prices for the four different Surface models ranging from $1,002 up to $2,150.
But now it turns on that the site's prices weren't based on anything in the real world. Responding to a query from blogging site Techie Buzz, Webhallen confirmed that it's received no information on pricing from Microsoft. The site instead claimed that it jacked up the prices on the tablet to lure in eager customers.

Thank you, that's a big relief for the iPad killer!

LOL... not really. The Surface has yet to prove itself in the marketplace. In truth... this is a huge year for Microsoft and for PC makers as well as the internet community at large. If Windows 8 fails (and there is a chance that this might happen, especially in the business market), MS is going to lose a ton of money and we're likely to see many PC makers go down. There will probably be more emphasis placed upon Linux in the coming year by both Game Makers and consumers. Linux is in an enviable position right now to make great gains "if" it can only dumb down the GUI and make it more Windows-like. I'm certain that many people, including businesses, would be willing to jump ship and go in that direction.

BUT deep down... I don't think Windows 8 will fail and I don't think the Surface Tablet will fail. I also believe that MS Office 365 will succeed but they're going to need to keep the price way, way down ($2 a month would put them under Google Docs) and be willing to lose money to ultimately make it. We shall see. In all of this I do not see Apple as the real threat. Instead, Google is the number one threat to MS as well as to Apple. We should be looking at what Google does over the next year and worrying.
