Yes....I know.....

I hope I don't offend you by using it. I tried FF 3 when it first was released, but found that the add-ons that I cannot live without were not available, yet, for 3, so I held off. Most likely they are now...I just haven't got to it, yet.

That underline under the C in Close tab should mean Alt-c, but that opens the about:config window. To close a tab in Firefox, you use Ctrl-w.

Yes, ctrl w is listed on the keyboard shortcuts page posted earlier. However, it is still a mystery as to what keys or key combination activates the underlined letters in the menu.

No offense meant... I'm simply curious why this is such a burning concern for you. I've never used it myself and in fact I don't know anyone who does, most simply using their mouse. :?

James,
the question was asked before, and, answered on Feb 8.
I have found that the keyboard commands always work at this time when the mouse doesn't, and that is very convenient.

Apparently, it is an important issue, but never encountered by me.

Well.. in fact, that doesn't really answer the question, Fulvio (at least not for me). I provided a page of keyboard short cuts that will work when the mouse isn't working. What I'm curious about is why there needs to be a keyboard short cut to open the tab menu without having to click on a tab. To me, this just never really comes up on a daily basis in practical circumstances... at least not for me.

.
I understood that the question referred to the reason for using keyboard vs mouse.
Agreed that there is no practical use of having the Tab menu open, to use the keyboard, instead of the mouse.

Re: Tab menu

I can clear this up by repeating the following:

ray5450 wrote:By the way, this is not something I would use all the time, but I have found that occasionally, a large website or one "busy with stuff", or some other unknown reason will freeze the mouse, usually temporarily, but sometimes longer than 5 minutes. If I can manage to eventually "coax" the mouse over to open the menu and close the tab, it fixes right away. I have found that the keyboard commands always work at this time when the mouse doesn't, and that is very convenient.

I understood what you said, and, it happens to me, at times, but, my solution is quite simple.
I click "reload", and 95% of the time, it works, immediately. I don't know why this happens, but it does.
However, our understanding was that you wish to have a shortcut to open the Tab Menu, and the importance of that is, obviously, not clear. I don't agree that it is a problem confined to the use of the mouse.
Oh yes, the other 5% which don't respond to the first reload, are in sites which are microsoft-centric that they do not accept anything but IE. I avoid such sites, because they are so backward, but, if I have a problem, it, usually, works with the IE Tab addon.
If I would have to rely on keyboard shortcuts, I would never remember them.
Could you tell us about one of these sites, if login is not required?

It does not occur on any particular site. I could open the same site some other time and all is good. The way I can tell which tab is the problem is either because it shows still loading and/or it was the last one I opened. Reloading would not work because nothing is responding. The mouse pointer moves slowly and sporadically, if at all, but if I am able to get it to the tab, I can right click, and close the tab and it fixes. If I could use this keyboard shortcut, I wouldn't have to go through all that.

Coincidentally, on a side note, I went to a site the other day and wanted to look at photos of a music band, but the site wouldn't let me because my FF was too old, lol, so okay, I have the new one now. It took 3 days for me to find the right add-ons and/or suitable replacements for ones that were no longer. Maybe this will also take care of this freezing problem. So far, it, or something similar, did occur several times, but it fixed after about 15 seconds, which is very fast. If it will be that short from now on, I guess I won't need to try this keyboard thing after all...BUT, Ha! I'll be ready now if it does!

Can you give a link? And, was this with FF3.6, which you seem to be using, now.

No, I was stating the reason that I updated to 3.6. This thread has brought up that I was using FF2. I was noting the coincidence that just recently, I was not allowed to do something with FF2, so it made me decide to move on to 3.6.

By the way, so far I am only having one problem with 3.6...should I go on here, or should it be in a new thread--I don't want to violate any rules here.

Starting a new thread would be the best method of getting attention to a different problem.

Okay. I refer you to: "[sdt=16394]FF 2 to 3 problems[/sdt]". Thanks.
