TBird on new laptop

Postby richard mitnick » Sun 12 Sep, 2010 11:06 am

Just loaded TBird 3.1.3 on the new laptop. Slick as glass. Got a .csv of my email address book from another computer, kept is simple, just name and email address, because TBirds import utility still sucks off the old Eudora process of tabbed cards and a horrendous importer.

One extension no longer necessary is Fireshot, for screen shots. Screen shots are now native. Good thing, Fireshot will not work in 3.1.3.

Could not yet get Simple Green for 3.1.3.

Very happy with TBird in this location.

Good on you, Richard. :)

Increasingly, I'm rejecting the idea of POP mail systems. Webmail (and other means of communication via the net) are more used today than ever before. In fact, e-mail is generally not used by users of the internet under the age of 30. I love the new Gmail, having imported all of my other accounts into that one central location. It's now a one-stop check for me (other than what my grandson and children send to me via Facebook).

I looked at T-bird and completely agree with you... the import system sucks... it's outdated... antiquated. While I still have a POP mail account (using Windows Live Mail via the Windows Live Essentials package), I'm slowly migrating everything over to my Gmail account. :)

I am a huge fan of Gmail, but I am also a huge fan of IMAP.

Currently I'm suing Zimbra Desktop to manager my sixteen gmail accounts as well as an AOL one. It works nicely, and imports all my mail from the gmail account as well as their calendars and address books.

My goodness John, whatever are we going to do with you? I think we should get together and send you to Carnegie-Mellon.

I am the guy with 16 accounts. Haha. And three running on a personal server, and 4 for the LimeBlog. All managed with Zimbra.

For a while, AOL was offering the opportunity of testing out a new mail server architecture using the mcom.com domain via either POP or IMAP. mcom.com was the original domain used by the former Mosaic Communications, which eventually became Netscape. I believe the beta has since closed as the site to create a new account is no longer available, but those of us who are testing it are able to keep the e-mail addresses.
