TBird problem

Postby richard mitnick » Thu 28 Jan, 2010 6:09 pm

I have TBird 3.01 set up on two computers where I have very little email use. One works fine. The other has a problem with the server set up. I took the problem computer, a laptop, over to the one that is working fine.

The problem machine will not send mail. When I try to send, I get this message

"Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server mail.optonline.net. It does not support authentication (SMTP-AUTH) but you have chosen to use authentication. Uncheck 'Use name and password' for that server or contact your service provider."

I have gone through all of the Account Settings and Options on both machines looking for some discrepancy on the machine that will not send.

Now, I cannot find anywhere where i have "chosen to use authentication". Further, I cannot find anything to uncheck "Use name and password"

Help, help, help.

Thanks,

Ah Richard. You should use Windows Live Mail. It's syncs with your hotmail account so that you can read your hotmail alongside your pop mail. It doesn't skin but who cares. It's just e-mail and all one should want is a great program to read, send and archive his messages. Just a thought. I gave up on t-bird long ago.

James-

You know, I just might go there. But I would first like to solve this.

Open the Account Settings window and scroll down the list in the sidebar. That setting is inside the last item in that scrolled list.

Yes, thanks, I got it last night. It is in Advanced. I just had not drilled that far. All's well that ends.
