Unlike Don in nice weather enjoying beautiful fireworks, Sydney is looking very gloomy. Cold and grey.

There's a flu outbreak. Not just the cold and wet weather, but also the new flu strain H3N2. After all, we are not even half way through winter.

On vacation (known as "on holiday" in some countries), weather has mostly been decent, occasional thunderstorms. :)

In tonight's 6pm news (Seven News) which runs 30 minutes. Something is really unbelievable.

The local weather came at end of the news programme (at around 29 minute past the hour) as usual, however, Don's American weather forecast, including satellite photos (which we don't get that often for our local weather) came on 9 minutes after the news started.

So, the weather in Don's powerful United States was reported in the early part of the news, while local residents here had to wait until the end of the news to get he local forecast. Extremely unfair.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) according to statistics, the third hottest day in Sydney's history.

According to weather forecast, the temperature will reach 43°C (that's 109.4°F in Don's American unit). On top of scorching temperature, the dry humidity also make Sydney (and most parts of NSW) extremely fire danger. Bushfire danger as expected, and the Sydney is also in fire danger according to last night's news.

Don lives in picturesque Quincy near beautiful Boston. Except some beautiful snow (which I can't understand Don even complained about beautiful snow), beautiful Boston is known to be a natural disaster free area - no bush fire danger, not in cyclone path, and not earthquake prone area.

It's hot here today, 40C. Last night was horrible with the minimum temperature getting down to 28C. Thankfully we've got a week of cooler weather coming starting tomorrow.

We had our heatwave back at Christmas time. A full week of weather being from 38C or so through to 42C as the high temperature. The air conditioning got a good workout, wasn't very fun at all. I'm not sure why the media is portraying all this as news though. This is Australia. It is summer time. It gets hot in summer. Bleating and moaning about it won't do much good.

The news media during last few weeks has been in following reporting order:
bushfire danger, followed by actual bushfire, then underage arsonists were caught. And even more devastated news - those teen arsonists received NO punishment (granted bail).

Unusual hot temperature has been reported, but clearly not the focus.

Oh, having access to air conditioned room is a good thing, unfortunately not all air conditioners were powerful enough to operate when the outside temperature reached over 40°C (especially the old ones). A few businesses shut down here in Sydney due to air conditioners failed to operate on Tuesday (hottest day).

January 2013's weather was extreme for Australia. We had plenty of bushfires followed by severe floods. It was the warmest month in Australia, Sydney had its hottest day 154 years. Then just 10 days later, some Sydney suburbs saw their wettest day in a decade. With more rain falling within 24 hours then we normally see in across all of January. (source: 7News Sydney 1 Feb 2013)

Don's advanced and powerful United States of America is one of the major developed countries refused to participate in Kyoto Protocol.

It's been the usual, cold, windy and snow filled winter. We did have our mid January thaw, but then it got cold again. The past two days were rather nice, with the temperature in the low fiftys. But then we had a thunderstorm, which turned into a snowstorm, which thus has made it bone chillingy cold and annoying out.

Well, we had the 'Blizzard of 2013' the other day. My hometown received two feet of snow and there were snow drifts in my yard that were 5-6 feet high. o.O

For Antony: Picturesque Quincy, was without power in parts of that city.

Most of the remaining power outages are down on Cape Cod and it's been reported that some down there may remain without power until this coming Thursday.

I'd really like to say that this will be the last snowstorm we will receive this winter, but I know that is not going to be the case...

Ouch. On the brighter side, they were having romantic candlelight supper in picturesque Quincy.

Eh, that's nothing. Come visit in NY. We can get 6 feet in one night, and that's just a snowfall we don't even bother calling it a blizzard!

Did you mean 6 inches? Six feet is higher than the short Antony. How do you get out during "beautiful snow season"?

John's exaggerating a wee bit BUT I'm sure the snow drifts into six foot drifts overnight. During the Blizzard of 77 we had houses that were literally buried in snow as well as cars. Lake effect snow generated off the Great Lakes can create amazing snowstorms.
