I think we've topped Adelaide Antony. Perhaps not 43C, but the forecast is for 4 days of straight 40C.

So, we got slammed in the worst way. At night. 20" of snow; but, with high winds, over 30" against the vehicles. Then, the plows, g-d bless them, piled it even higher when clearing one lane in the street.

But hey, snowshoeing the next day. Glorious sunshine from a Canadian high pressure system. We went to a local state park. I stuck my pole in and it went down to 110cm, so, over 40" in spots. And, I broke a snowshoe about a mile from the vehicle on the way back. Not fun. So, home, and I went right out and bought a new pair.

How about you, John, you make us look .like amateurs.

Although not reaching the predicted 43°C, Adelaide is really hot today. At 6.30pm, the temperature is still at 34°C.

We stayed as much as possible inside the car or in air-conditioned area.

34.3°C (94°F) outside here in Sydney (measured by my thermometer)!

I was right to have a proper air conditioner installed in early November last year.

You can't believe how hot it is. Just a trip to the bank and post office (about 1.6 km, driving), I got all sweated when back home.

Sorry to hear about the unbearable heat, Antony. Here the temperature is quite mild and rainy. It's a typical Northwest winter... rain and more rain with mild temperatures. Sure wish I could have some sunshine for a change.

Ugh-

The Northeast of the U.S. seems to be a never ending series of days of precipitation. And, cold, cold, cold.

It went down to -22C here a few days ago. It was so cold that the tailpipe emissions from my car literally left a cloud on the ground where I'd previously been driving.

It's supposed to hit 38F today, and while it hasn't yet, it certainly feels warmer (though still freezing) outside.

Thankfully Rochester has been exempt from the storms that hit the East Coast. We've only got snow up a bit past my ankles with occasional flurries due to lake effect, while back home in Boston I've heard that there's over two feet in some places.

We had 3 days of above 30°C (30°C is about 86°F), and yesterday was sort of 'nice and cool' at 26°C (79°F). Unfortunately, today was back to 30s in temperature.

I stayed inside aircon room as much as I could.

Pretty much the conversation with everybody started with the unbearable hot temperature today.

Slightly better than yesterday's scorching heat, today is the second day of the extremely hot day (over 40°C) in most areas in Sydney. According to last night's news and Energy Australia, Sydney residents beat the records on electricity usage - 14,377 megaWatts. (The previous record was 14,106 megaWatts on 6th Feb 2009).
(We also helped contributing to the new records: with 3 aircons on most of the day.)

Last night was nowhere comfortable the minimum temperature still over 26°C.

Unfortunately, the forecast says heat wave is expected to last for a week.

The Northeast U.S has had a major storm each and every week since Christmas somewhere in the Tues-Thurs time slot. We are in the midst of one now which includes sleet and freezing rain.

Thanks to what I believe was a high-pressure system, the Rochester area was spared a huge snowstorm that was supposed to knock out power to the campus and potentially cut classes for today (it would have been the first time in years that we were closed due to snow). Thankfully no such thing happened, but I hear neighboring communities have gotten hit hard.

We just had a week of unbearable heat. Saturday's temperature set a new record: the hottest day in 5 years, and the hottest February day in 85 years. Further, that made the six consecutive days of temperature stayed well above 30°C (86°F) in Sydney. Sydney's west is even worse, Saturday reached the seven consecutive days of exceeding 35°C (95°F).

The very welcome news, the temperature dropped down yesterday. Unlike many Americans (who faced some inconvenience due to beautiful snow), I am pretty sure many people here are looking forward to winter.

As for Australia-wide, just 5 or 6 weeks into 2011, there have been floods, cyclones, heat waves and bushfire (at this moment near Perth (also severe weather warnings in place for WA), storms expected and heavy rainfall in north part of Australia. sounds like end of the world?
Just to finish the picture, there was snow in the Alps (the snow resort area).

Sorry for the absence, been rather busy with classes and the drama production.

Right now we are in the midst of a snow storm, which is supposed to give us another two feet. On top of the four we already have. Which, for those of you who do not feel like doing the math would leave us with a grand total of six feet or 182.88CM.

So far, my school has had one 2 hour delay and one snow day this year. But there is a good chance that we will have at least a delay, possibly even a snow day, tomorrow with this storm we're getting hit with now.

On top of the heavy snow fall, when there isn't precipitation it has been bone chillingly cold outside. Even when temperatures aren't dipping into the negatives with the winds off of Lake Ontario, wind chill temps have been down into the negatives. It's bundle up or freeze up in these parts. (On the plus side I can make ice cubes rather fast outside on the patio.) :)
