All of that was done with excellent stability in just 64 MB of RAM. It makes you wonder why Windows ME was as stable as a table with a missing leg with 64 MB of RAM...

Hey SSS,
How did you get internet in Basilisk II?

i have a keen interest in emulation of a different kind. i collect old computer games, i've got many hundreds, many of which i had when i was younger but i no longer have the space to keep all these systems going.

the aesthetically pleasing donkey kong country - released 13 years ago and still looking good (when played on tv anyway)

the sega mega cd boot screen

and perhaps arguably, one of the best sonic games ever made, although a tad easy.

i do use virtual pc too, but i can't honestly say i've done anything with it other than test software on a clean install.

does anybody have a definitive list of what linux distributions do and don't work under virtual pc?

i know vmware is better but all the additional service overheads running constantly in the background put me off using it.

Just a small question, do you have a joystick or a gamepad connected to the computer?

I have a small list of Linux distributions that work and do not work under Virtual PC 6 for Mac and Virtual PC 7 for Mac. I don't think that helps. Virtual PC for Mac has more restrictions than (for Windows) version.

i actually have a sony playstation pad connected to my pc:

http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.aspx? ... mid=326739

i've always found these pads to be amongst the most comfortable to use - i was surprised that there were no drivers to install - it just "worked". i've also got a wireless playstation 2 pad which uses a dongle and is very responsive so i can sit well away from my pc and not worry about the cable.

i got a nice long composite s video cable (which i had to order from the states) so i can plug my pc into my telly and play games on it - this picture taken for the metropol christmas thread demonstrates it nicely

the game is the original super mario on the nintendo nes which my girlfriend is addicted to (as she had it when she was a kid) - fortunately she now plays new super mario on the nintendo ds more so i can play my old sega mega drive classics like they were supposed to be played, ie, not on a lcd monitor as they always look so blocky.

Isn't it good to go back to the good old retro days? I use emulators too, the old consoles/computers i had were a Megadrive, an Aamstrad CPC 464+ (How obsolete now!)

I used to love Sonic, just like Mark, and still enjoy the classics. If i can get some screenshots of my favourite games running under my emulators, i'll post them up.

Here's a small list (i seriously need to change my writing style, don't i? ;))

Amstrad CPC 464+:

Burnin' Rubber (From the machine cartridge)

On The Run

Rik The Roadie

Wriggler

Syntax

Oh Mummy

I use WinApe32 to run all my old ROM's. It seems to run OK, but has a few glitches, and the settings need to be tweaked to get it to run perfectly.

For my MegaDrive:

Comix Zone (This was awesome!)

Golden Axe (all series) This was the forst game i got with it

Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge (I can't remeber the proper name!)

I have lots more, i've got 2GB worth of ROMS on my hard drive. If anyone wants any, let me know ;)

I used to have the Donkey Kong handheld, from Nintendo, when i was 7. I used to get hours of amusement from it (Until my dog chewed it!)

The good old days, eh?

For some stupid reasons, I bought an Xbox few years back, (I am not a gamer). I then bought the Hi Definition kit for it from States. (Microsoft did not release Hi Definition Kit in Australia. I could've ordered it from Hong Kong, but for a stupid reason, I decided to buy the Monster Cable version of XBox Hi Def kit.

Then I found many US electronic shops do not ship outside US. Some do, but the shipping would cost more than the Monster Cable itself.

I found one thing interesting: There are a few US stores that ship to overseas, but they do not accept credit cards with non-US billing address. Some accept non-US credit cards, but do not ship overseas.

I ended up asking my friend to re-ship from States for me.

Yeah, I still get a lot of good netplay time out of the fourteen-year-old Doom 1, even if I'm cheating the retro-ness of it by replacing all the sprites with 3D models and running it at 1400x1050.

And there's nothing like breathing new life into a nine-year-old game by reprogramming it. Especially when you mess up and it still runs.

Microsoft released a VGA cable for the Xbox 360, so you can play your games in 720p/1080i on your computer monitor without needing to buy an HDTV. Rumor has it that a DVI-or-HDMI-capable one is coming out sometime later this year.
