the 'no joy workaround' for NS7 Address book worked 'but'

Postby Shortsy » Thu 04 Nov, 2004 12:51 pm

:( Looking for advice. (eg Anything, else, in that bag-o-tricks?)

Had a mbd crash.

So!, for system cleanup, I retrieved essential data from C: drive; including '*.mab' files. There were no *.LDIF to work with.

I followed SillyDog' guidance for 'corrupted addressbooks'. Thanks to whoever documented that advice. 'That' worked quite well except for one solvable problem.

Heres the problem :(

I had had a number of mail lists within the addressbooks and ('none' survived) were unpopulated & had 'bare' icons for the lists that did show up.
Obviously, the lists can be manually reconstituted since there are, only, about 10-20, but I'd rather re-try to retrieve them.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for all this good stuff,
Shortsy

BTW My three systems are Win98SE systems with one portable drive which is a superb asset. :)

1.You have to create the .ldif files, by using the Tools|Export function. This is a backup, as well as a way to import Addrress books.
2. the abook.mab file will contain the default address books, i.e. Personal and Collected. Any other address book which you create will be in files like abook-1.mab. and finally, if you imported a file, it will be impab.mab,etc. I have five different files in Netscape 7.2, three of which were imported.
So, there is more than one place to look, although I don't know if it will help you with the mailing lists.
But, keep in mind one thing. You are much safer by having address books separate from what is given to you. And, backup.
