Congratulations to Antony for finally getting some free computers. I'd like to point out the trashed computers from work I got for free back in 2008, which at this point have been sold or given away:

Image

Then in 2009 my university threw out a bunch of Dell Latitudes, which were either sold, gifted to family and friends, or in the case of the small underpowered one on the upper right, repurposed into an alarm clock:

Image

Well, here's the first of this year's trash. Seven Dell OptiPlex GX260 towers. :)

Image

They're the same as some of the towers I found intermittently last year (also sold or gifted to family). Only two have RAM and none of them have hard drives. I'm going to see if anybody I know needs one; if not I'll be putting them on Craigslist as-is to see if I can make some money off them. To Antony: I am neither rich nor high-class.

Thanks iJohnE.

Slightly rearranged setup, still need to hide the cables under the desk better.

I've found that the twist ties that come on loaves of bread are useful for that.

Thanks. I bought a few cable ties as well as cable organisers.

Those work very well also. Binder clips work good for laptop cables, I've discovered.

My updated setup:

The important white gloves on the corner of the desk is for positioning the LED Cinema Displays, or course.

My setup at the new (as of two months ago) apartment:

Note that's just ONE monitor now that my laptop screen is shattered, an old boxy 17" CRT which Antony would certainly never use.

Nice setup Don. So how many computers are there in that photo?

And is that a clock above your monitor? What happened to your digital clock laptop?

Four, unless you want to count the Xbox as a computer. The others are my laptop, my Sun Microsystems tower (to Antony: free trash), and a Dell OptiPlex GX400 and Dimension XPS D233 that I found in the garbage a week ago. Neither of the latter two power on, and I'm attempting to fix them so that I can sell them.

I would like to point out that 2560 * 1440 = 3686400, while 1920 * 1200 = 2304000. Antony's monitors can each display 3.68 million pixels, while each of mine can display 2.3 million pixels.

3686400 * 2 = 7372800 (total 7.37 million pixels)

2304000 * 3 = 6912000 (total 6.91 million pixels)

Antony has a total of 6.7% more pixels than I do! Perhaps I shouldn't have been so quick to sell my old 3008WFP monitor.

Perhaps we can do the math in slightly different way.

Mandrake has three (3) 24-inch displays, and I only have two (2) 27-inches.

So 24 x 3 = 72
whereas 27 x 2 = 54

Mandrake has 33% more in combined inches of monitors.

Well that's an interesting way of looking at it. To be honest, this three monitor setup is overkill. I can't effectively use so much desktop space. I'm actually considering just dropping down to two monitors to free up some room on my desk.
