Finally upgraded to Core i7. I've been wanting to do this for some time now. Also added a new EVGA GeForce GTX 260 for SLI. :)

The processor label. This is a D0 stepping which offers more overclocking headroom and lower power consumption than the older C0 stepping. Model is the i7 920.

ASUS P6T Motherboard, Core i7 920 and GeForce GTX 260 SLI. I'm only using the reference Intel heatsink until the Socket 1366 mounting bracket for my Noctua NH-U12P heatsink arrives.

12GB (6x 2GB) Corsair DDR3 memory.

The CPU clocks down to 1.6GHz when idle because SpeedStep is enabled.

I am jealous. Congratulations on your Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 12GB of RAM!

My Noctua 1366 mounting kit arrived on Thursday. Time to see what this beauty can really do. :)

Image

It's perfectly stable at 3.8GHz, though I had it at 4.1GHz earlier running some benchmarks.

Lets see what this beauty is capable of with a bit of extra voltage. :)

Just how stable is a 1.6GHz overclock on air cooling, anyway?

It's stable enough to run benchmarks like SuperPi or 3DMark, but that's about it. A full load run on it for more than five minutes or so and it just crashes.

I run 3.8GHz as a standard overclock. It's perfectly stable at that speed. I tested that extensively with Prime95 and IntelBurnTest. :)

CPU-Z wasn't reporting the correct frequency. But, the proof is there. A stunning 1.9GHz overclock on air cooling. :)

My new laptop (MacBook - cheapest model)

And no, Antony, I'm not rich. This is the cheapest model, and I still had to use an educational discount to get it. (That, and I don't really like the design of the other models)

I got my new hardware yesterday. An Athlon X2 4050e (overclocked to 2.5GHz) and a new ECS GeForce6100PM-M2. It might not be "high-end". It might not be "mid-range", but it damn sure is faster then the 1.5GHz Via C7-D I had to use after my socket 939 Athlon blew out. Thankfully, though, the board supports Phenom's at the very least (and hopefully Phenom II's), so it has some future left.

Here's the obligatory CPU-Z shot of it:

I'm the exception, not the rule. Remember that, and you'll be all right.

Congratulations Pu7o on your purchase of MacBook.

(My iMac is almost reaching its 3 years serving time, I need a replacement...)

Mandrake - About those pictures of the motherboard, aren't manufacturers supposed to make these things EASIER to figure out???

And I thought my K6 motherboard was bad...

I also learned yesterday, not to mix different memory types...

Did you learn the lesson the hard way?

I did.....not going to tell that story, I'm legally not allowed to as a matter of fact.
