The nice weather today was an excuse for me to go out shooting.

I love this scene. It makes a perfect Windows desktop.

Some recent photos.

After all, Sydney is not as beautiful as Boston, nor is as picturesque as Quincy.

Beautiful city-scapes, Antony. That time of day is magic and your camera's metering is spot on. :)

Thank you James.

I used the iPhone app for the sunrise and sunset times. Apparently, those times were popular with other photographers. Speaking about the iOS app, you might find The Photographer's Ephemeris handy (universal for both iPhone/iPod touch and iPad) and PhotoCalc (iPhone/iPod touch only) handy.

Oh, you might be interested to know the story of me taking a photo of sunrise. It took me three trips. (Translating to Don's language: I paid 3 road tolls for it.)

Well, I got up before 5am aiming for a sunrise photo. The first morning, it took me about 10 minutes to find the exact location on my GPS. (Laurent gave me the wrong name.) Without a doubt, I was furious after arriving the location.
The next morning, again, I got up before 5am. Arrived at the location before sunrise, except... foggy morning. In fact, not just some fog, but heavy fog that morning, all flights to Sydney were diverted to Brisbane and Adelaide for that morning. Here's the foggy morning photo (taken at sunrise time):

Apart from getting up early, apparently, I also need to check the weather forecast.

Since I got up early twice, paid road toll twice, and did not get the photo I wanted, I, of course, have to go back there again for the third time. Finally, third time lucky.

Your shots are all excellent but... your 3rd shot is spectacular. You really nailed that one: exposure dead on. Perfect framing and composition. Well done. It should be framed.

The weather here has been horrible, but I managed to took some photos of Vivid Sydney festival few nights back.

Don't worry, it's nowhere as beautiful as Don's beautiful Boston and picturesque Quincy.

Did you use a tripod?

Yes.

I have to admit that some photos were not as sharp as I've hoped, I guess the lightweight tripod was not that steady in the windy night. (I do have a good strong tripod, but was too lazy.)

The images you posted are beautiful (and tack sharp). I remember reading that in the absence of a strong, heavy tripod you can hang a rock from the tripod to make it heavier and more solid. Good work, Antony. Looks like you're enjoying your new camera.

Thanks James. And I really enjoy my new camera.

Since the downsizing of the DSLR camera (Sony a350 -> Sony NEX-7), there were a few items needed to match the downsizing as well. Tripod was number 1 in my list, from a 3kg version to 1.15kg one same Manfrotto brand. The 3kg Manfrotto tripod was a great tripod, except it has proven to be a headache while travelling.

Some photos I took last Sunday.

BTW, those are macarons, not macaroons.

(I did not make the macarons, but I set them up for the photo.) Antony is not as skilful as Don.

Once again... tack-sharp and beautiful colors. This new system of yours is a real winner. The pictures look good enough to eat! :D

Speaking of Don... haven't seen him post in quite a while.

To best of my knowledge, he's in some secret project again, doing something super-secrecy.
