Thunderbird and Vista system

Postby MichaelJRich » Tue 02 Nov, 2010 11:02 pm

Howdy,

My old friend, Bobby M, is a retire cop. He ain't the brightest bulb in the pack (his words, not mine) and he has a Windows 7 or a Windows Vista system (I can't remember.) But for his email, he uses Windows Live Mail and it is horrible on the user end (for him.) Will Thunderbird run on either of the above mentioned systems?

Thanks
Mike

Also, what's the latest version? I am running 2. something or other and it works great.

Well, they don't want anything different than what they are using.

Thanks, Silly Dog! You have helped me before and I appreciate you being here.

Not sure what your friend wants. Does he want to run Thunderbird in Vista, and not make changes?
Of course TB runs in Vista and Windows7. I use both TB3.0.16, the latest version, as well as the latest 2.0.0.25. Version 2.x will not be updated, as far as I know, and there may be security risks.
Version 3.x has given problems to several people. You know, the types who freak out when things are a bit different.

Fulvio, they are an older retired couple and know little about how things work on a computer. They like to click an icon and have everything be the same as it was last year. They run Windows 7 (confirmed today) and don't want anything new. Hell, I changed their message layout to message header on top of readable message and I thought they were going to have a heart attack! I finally gave them CPR and they survived.

I think TB would serve them well. Maybe in the future.

Thanks for your input on the latest versions of TB. I am like my old retired friends.....takes me a while to catch up with things.

All the best
Mike

Mike, I hear you loud and clear. Some good friends of mine (in their late 80's... in fact, he may be 90 now) are the exact same and fear change enormously. When I was over to their place a few years back and Netscape was being discontinued I tried and tried to convince them to switch over to Mozilla (now SeaMonkey) but they refused. Change can be threatening to older folks and as I age, I have to remind myself of that truth. LOL

Well, I am 78, and retired for the past eight years. I never give up trying, although it can frustrating, at times.
But, I feel that mind is not going asleep any time soon.
Change can be threatening to people of all ages, and those are the ones who get worse later in life.
Talking about change, I would be intimidated changing an operating system, but sooner or later one has to make even that small, or large leap.

Well... you're my senior, Fulvio. I'm a mere 64!

In a year I hope to change operating systems... from Windows to a Mac. I'm hoping that the switch will not be too difficult to manage.

James, I was born in Italy, and my homeland on the northeastern border had been given to the, then, Yugoslavia, so we were refugees in our own country. I was learning English as a foreign language, but when you were born, I had no idea that I would be living most of my life in the USA!
I am, now, on my seventh year, I think, with the same computer, which runs Win XP. It is getting slower and slower, but I understand enough to keep extra baggage on external drives, and my 512 MB are more agile than I am. No question, but never knows what the machine will do, next.
If I can't afford a new one, I have my original one, which I rebuilt, and upgraded to Win98 SE. That should get me as far as those folks who are afraid of change. Who needs more than 3 GB hard drive, and 128 MB RAM?

I use TB 3.1.6 in both Vista and Win7 with zero problems.
