Tiny A440 Laptop 1-3-3-1 Beeps on startup

Postby polo34 » Wed 14 Mar, 2007 9:39 am

Hi All,

My father has an old tiny A440 laptop that he stopped using about 2 years ago. It started crashing a lot and then he got a new laptop. I came across it the other day whilst I was tidying up and tried to start it up and am now getting 1 beep 3 beeps 3 beeps 1 beep.

I searched the web and found something relating to "Autosize DRAM", but I am not sure if this is related to this BIOS, I am sure that relates to a phoenix BIOS. Anyways, I found a few posts about A440's so I wondered if anyone knew what might be causing it?

Many thanks.

I have no knowledge of the Tiny brand computer.

The Quick Reference for my IBM ThinkCentre (December 2003) describes the POST 1-3-3-1 short beep pattern as "No memory or no configuration memory". The Action one should take is "Reinstall the memory. [or] If problem persists, replace the memory."

This is consistent with your 'DRAM' information. Check that the memory card(s) are:
- present
- paired correctly (if required)
- seated fully

Many thanks,

I wasn't sure if it was referring to some "on chip" memory.

I will see if I can get some ram from ebay.

Do you know where I may be able to get a service manual for this machine. I assume it is a machine branded with the Tiny name? Do you know what the real base system is - I see a lot of mentions of FIC?

I have no knowledge of the Tiny brand computer.

A Google search of [ "Tiny brand computer" ] (double-quotation marks included) brought up a few hits, some of which may give some direction for future searches and researches. I haven't looked at any of the hits.

Have you looked inside the machine to check on the memory? If it was "crashing a lot" then perhaps the memory became faulty. The computer may not be economically justifiable to repair.
