Tons of spam in Yahoo mail

Postby Fulvio » Sat 07 Jan, 2012 1:47 pm

I have been using Yahoo mail for years, and, had occasional Spam messages, ending in the Bulk Mail folder. Almost half those e-mail where not Bulk Mail, but since about Christmas Time, I have seen an abrupt increase in Bulk Mail. Since yesterday, I got 55 spam e-mail, and the usual five or six which are wanted. I mark them spam, and, today I received nearly 40 from the same source, ending directly in Trash, but my Bulk Mail got 17 messages.
I must give credit to Yahoo for its ability of IDing junk, but has anyone else seen anything like this in Yahoo, or other e-mail providers?

Not at all, Fulvio. In fact, I've found just the opposite. That is, my spam levels have decreased almost to the point of non-existent anymore. Today for instance I had one piece of spam in my Yahoo folder, none in my Hotmail and none in my Gmail.

It started with one or so per day before the holidays. Mostly Viagra type ads. Then the avalanche. For all things like gift cards, classes to get degrees of all sorts, and obvious spam with disguised titles. All Yahoo bulk mail is sent to the Trash folder, although a few of them require manual dumping.
I gave up on Hotmail, long ago, because it had become Spam city, and never tried Gmail. I had to give up on AOL even earlier, when I was paying for it. And, they did not have a Bulk mail setting.

Sorry to hear about this deluge of spam, Fulvio. Have you tried gmx mail? Here's the link:

Perhaps using this would help your situation. As for hotmail, it's much more robust than it was in years past. You might want to take another look at it.

I seldom received spam in my Yahoo mail account which is only used for sites where I don't want to use my regular ISP address.

Things changed after I purchased my first Android tablet early last year. I use the Yahoo address for all apps I download from the Android Market....now I get upwards of 20 spam a day. Easy fix for me....check Yahoo once a week and hit delete Spam.

Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail all have wonderful methods of dealing with Spam. Like you, I don't worry about it but simply mark whatever does come in (which is precious little) as Spam to train the filters and voila... that's the last I see of that particular item. Over time my level of Spam has gone down to practically nothing as a result.

I have used the same address for years, but, rarely, had gotten any spam, till a couple of weeks before Christmas, when I started getting several Viagra e-mails. Then since after Christmas, I got an avalanche, which is growing. I had about 30 this morning. I checked my mail, again, tonight, and had 16 more. In the time that it took to change one address, and move its mail, I got two more. Interestingly, I have set my Bulk Mail to go, directly to Trash, but, invariably, a few posts do not budge, and will not be moved. Eventually, they will be gone.
