Trend Micro's misleading ads

Postby James » Fri 29 Oct, 2004 9:22 am

I've been very tempted to pay for it myself. But right now I'm trying the 30-day free trial of Trend Micro's PC-cillin Security Suite. I like the fact that I receive daily (sometimes twice a day) updates in the AV definitions, have a password/credit card vault and a very easy to configure firewall. I do NOT like the fact that the advertisement for it on the MS site was misleading. They claimed one could get it for either $24.95 OR a 90 day free trial period. Now they claim that the $24.95 was for upgrades only and the 90 day free trial was for beta testers only. That is not true OR if it is true they put it in such small print that it was misleading. I"ll try it for the duration and then likely dump it because of this very fact. If I can't trust a company to deal honestly, I'm not sure I want to trust them over the long haul.

James,
I scoured the website right and left, and I found it annoying because I could not all the information. I came up with a constant, that there is no more an antiVirus program, but rather a Security suite for $49.95.
I could get zero information on the trial, or future updates. They may ok, but they are surely not open.
By the way, this post does not belong to the Netscape/mozilla threads.

I know... sorry, Fulvio. BTW.. and then you can move it or dump it... the only way you can discover this is to disable your anti-virus. That will cause WinXP to show you a cautionary menu. There is a link in that menu on how to fix the situation. If you follow it, it will take you to an MS site where the offers are still there. I suspect, however, that many participating companies have decided to pull out and now will no longer honor their original offer. Another case in point is CA. They offered a full free year on their suite but try... just try to download it. It's IMPOSSIBLE. I've tried for over a week. And try to contact the company. No way, Jose. Obviously I will NOT be making any purchases from CA.
