for years, with both Netscape 4.05 and then 4.8, could always send unsent messges, in last few weeks, error message posted:

Netscape out of memory

we installed more memory--still the same error message

Possibly there are some files we can delete etc to overcme this

called Netscape, they had no suggestions

Just an idea, did you try emptying your browser cache? That can work for a number of problems.

Just for the time being, try creating a new profile with User Profile Manager, then use your existing e-mail servers with it, and try it with this new profile. If it works with this new one, something went wrong with your old profile. If it doesn't work, something may have gone wrong with your Netscape install, in which case you can reinstall 4.8 without losing any data such as e-mail and preferences.

sadly,I'm such a novice, I don't know where to find "profile manager" can't see it listed uder Help, or in Preferences, etc

Well, I don't know the command line for it, but if you still have a Start menu -> Programs item for Netscape Communicator, it is listed under Utilities.

In that case, I would suggest that you re-download NS4.8 and install it over your existing 4.8. This will not erase your settings, as long as you don't uninstall before you reinstall.
