I want to increase the RAM on my Power Mac. However, I can't seem to find details on configuration. I have a Power Mac G4 350Mhz AGP with a 1 GHz Sonnet/ Encore Processor running OS X Panther 10.3.9. I never run OS 9. I have 512 MB of Ram now. Here is the configuration:

DIMM0/J21:
Size: 128 MB
Type: SDRAM
Speed: PC100-322S

DIMM1/J22:
Size: 128 MB
Type: SDRAM
Speed: PC100-222S

DIMM2/J23:
Size: 256 MB
Type: SDRAM
Speed: PC100-222S

DIMM3/J24: Empty

My question is, can I drop a 512 PC100 or PC133 Module in the empty slot or does it have to be a 256 MB module? In other words can I mix & match? My friend had a PC that used RD Ram and could only have the same amount of RAM in the respective slots. i.e. If slot 0 has 256 then slot 1 has to have 256 etc. I just want to know how to approach purchasing my RAM.

According to what I've been reading, the AGP Power Mac G4 (350MHz generation) will take up to 2GB of memory using 512MB sticks. The PCI variant can only take 1GB using 256MB sticks.

You only needed to mix and match with certain types of boards; for example, early Pentium 1's that used EDO memory needed to be installed in pairs due to EDO's pipe width being half that of what the Pentium was designed to address. Your board should be able to take modules without installing in pairs, but if you really want to find out for sure, take out one of the 128MB modules and put the 256MB one in its place.
