Using a SD Card in a Compact Flash slot?

Postby Subir » Sat 16 Oct, 2004 9:06 am

OK, here's the story (or at least the gist of it)...

My local electronics store (Dixons) is offering the Thomson PDP 2860 U Lyra AV Jukebox which is a handheld media player (with a LCD screen), for only £300. This offer is for a limited period only, & I would end up saving around £200. Seeming as I was going to buy a handheld media player (at some point) anyway I thought this was quite a good offer.

But I have a problem, I mainly use SD Cards (because I have a Bug DAB Digital Radio). The problem is the Thomson PDP 2860 U Lyra AV Jukebox uses Compact Flash (CF) cards, NOT SD Cards. I have all my MP3s & other media on SD Cards, plus the laptop I'm using only has a memory card reader for Sony Memory Sticks (MS), SD Cards & MultiMedia (MMC) Cards, it DOES NOT READ OR WRITE TO COMPACT FLASH (CF) Cards.

I have found a product at Widget UK, it is a Compact Flash to SD Card adaptor. But it says it is not recommended for use in devices that have a closable slot, which unfortunately the Thomson PDP 2860 U Lyra AV Jukebox does (I think)!

Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas? I'm stumped! :?

Please help (if you can)! 8-)

Subhir,

FYI: The Dixons link in your post, goes to a "Session Timeout" page on the Dixons.co.uk server.

Oh yeah, so it does...

Well just click on the link for the THOMSON MPEG4 VIDEO AND AUDIO PLAYER on the http://www.dixons.co.uk/ homepage then.

I doubt it. I tried out my Belkin 8 in 1 R/W device that R/Ws SD/MMC/CF1/CF2/MS/MSPro/SM. I put the SD card in the CF 1/2 slot and it did not read. Sorry!

The reason why it cannot be used in a slot that closes, is because the length of an SD/MMC card is longer than a CF card.
