Using NS 7.0 CCK to customize NS 7.1 / 7.2

Postby rtdos » Mon 05 Jul, 2004 3:20 pm

is it possible ?

sorta, i think. i would like to know what others think.

I used NS 7.0 CCK to modify a full download of 7.1 and when i tried to install NS 7.1 it did install properly as NS 7.1 with my customizations.

Is this how sillydog.org did it ?

I am pretty sure that it was not done as you did. In fact, somepeople who did get 7.0x, did not try to make 7.1, because its CCK was not available.
It is likely that AOL does not care what people do.
You did not leave website info, although I found a rtdos.com site.
I may be interested in checking out your beast, or why don't try to use it to post here?

after installing you should see a message in the title bar to let you / me know if it was successful.

It looks like 7.1, in every way, at first glance. But, it is a Navigator only program.
Installation went ok from the unzipped file, and starting with Setup.exe.
I am not so sure about that Radio@NetscapePlus. It used to be directly accessible. Of course, I have the new version, so I skipped that.

yea, i did. i had to see if CCK 7.0 would work with NS 7.1 but taking a full install (that's the only way that I could get it to work) and seeing how far i can strip it down. try the bookmarks, help, clicking on the logo, about, etc. all those things should take you somewhere around my website or say rtdos in some way.

I am not sure how silly dog did it but I think it was a close approximation (no mail news no plugins etc.) to sillydogs streamlined version of NS 7.1

I left radio in there too as more or less a test for install than anything.

Hello, rtdos,

The official answer is "not possible", but it is "doable".
Streamline 7.1 is created with the help of CCK 7.0 plus a number of advanced manual steps. It is still considered as tread secret.

However, there's another version, which to me it far more complicated, please see [sdt=5369]see this thread[/sdt].

updated link:

so far it does work and seems easier than the method that Anthony posted. :)

do you think its "ok" to let the general public know now ? (but mention its a use at your own risk thing?)

I have no idea how you compared with SillyDog701's Streamline 7.1 :-)

I think you need to tell us what is included in your build first, and what's the feature or the difference in your build.

What are the files BinarySol.exe and FISH3.exe for?

yes, binsol.exe and fish.exe are both games. as far as what components that i installed , played around with every configuration and did only browser the first time followed by browser / mail the 2nd time - adding the "two games" as a "test" of sorts. but it does look like that you can create a browser only or custom install of NS 7.1 using CCK 7.0

rtdos,
If you want to include anything unusual, I believe you should let us know in advance.

according to Netscape own website, CCK 7.0 can be used with NS 7.1

http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browser ... wnload.jsp

btw, any word yet on 7.2 ?

Where on the site did it say that? The Browser Distribution Pack and Client Customization Kit are two different tools.
