Very brief access to NS 7 bookmark properties!

Postby TerryNobbe » Tue 05 Nov, 2002 4:49 pm

After installing NS 7 cleanly on WIN98 SE, when I go to manage bookmarks and go the the properties of a bookmark, the properties window comes up for a fraction of a second, then disappears.
There are some other glitches in NS 7, very minor.
I don't experience this issue with any other app running on my system (Celeron 533MHz, HD only 1/3 full, 256MB ram).

Figuring the issue might be related to the copy of NS 7 I'd installed (full version internet install), I downloaded the 13 MB version from SillyDog, uninstalled the original, rebooted. Shut down all but Explorer and Systray, installed new copy, rebooted again. Issue still prevalent.

May I assume that you context-click(right click). If you are using the same profile, it does not matter how many different programs you install, the problem will remain. Was this the first NS6/7 on your computer?
I know that I am out of my mind, but I have four copies of NS7, all from different sources, all of them with different profiles, and different idiosynchrasies.

Assumption correct. Thanks much for your response.
The netscape-type brower I used just previous for a good while was Mozilla 1.0.
That was pretty good, but had some quirks I didn't care for, so I worked to download a copy of NS 7. (I run efficient 56k dial-up.)
I'd run NS 4.78 for many years, but after installing IE 6.0 got a bit spoiled.
One respondent in a similar help forum suggested my issue is a quirk relative to WIN98, I got no response when I asked if WIN2K or XP would not experience same issue.

Hello Terry,
It is recommend that you use different profiles for Netscape and Mozilla.
Have you tried select the bookmark entry from the Bookmark Manager, then click "properties" from the toolbar?

You might want to check NS 7.0 user report/feedback thread, and/or add glitches there.

I have NS7 installed on two Win98SE machines and one Win2000 machine. I have never had a problem with seeing the properties of the bookmarks regardless on how I got to it (through sidebar, drop down Bookmarks, or through Manage Bookmarks). All were Clean installed according to Ramona's Clean Install instructions at:

http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns67cleaninstall.html

I have NO other Mozilla based browsers on my system. This is just comparison info for you.

Have you tried creating a brand-new profile and seeing if the properties of the new bookmarks act the same way?

NS7 works great on all my systems. Good luck!

PS: Under NS6.2.x, I had problems sometimes seeing the properties when left clicking on items on my Personal Toolbar.

The first time I installed NS 7, Mozilla was still resident, I uninstalled Mozilla after the first NS 7 install.
I've used only one profile.
I believe I DID send a query to NS Support, got no response.
For now, I'm going to leave NS off my system entirely.
I'll try it again as time and inclination allow.
Thanks so much for your suggestions, this forum is much more responsive than others! :)
