FF not completely exiting/closing

Postby ray5450 » Fri 08 Oct, 2010 10:50 am

Suddenly, maybe with some recent FF update (?), when I close FF, then open it again, I found that one instance will open at that time, but no new FF windows will open after that. Some websites (besides popups) require a separate window for certain functions, or sometimes I find I need one. After some time investigating, I found that after closing FF, firefox.exe remains in the Processes List under Windows Task Manager. If I manually delete it out, then the problem is gone...until the next time I close FF. I have to manually take it out every time. Does anyone know anything about this odd thing? Thanks.

(I have noticed in everyone's posts that a list of stats and versions is captured, so I conclude that I don't need to list those anymore.)

Yes, that seems to be the answer. If/when I figure out whether it is an install, or one of the plugins, I'll post it here.

Thanks.

Okay, after more trial and error, I am finding that it is not quite the same problem as a "not closing" issue. Right after powering on my machine, and then starting FF (starts okay), it then has this problem of not being able to open any new windows of FF, even though it is the first time running it since powering on. In other words, in order for the problem of: "not being able to open another FF window being caused by not closing correctly", I would have had to close it once, which I didn't. However, It then does fix by closing it, removing it from Processes, and reopening. After doing that, it will again open another FF window. If I then close them all, restart FF, a lot of times, it still works okay, but sometimes I need to remove from Processes again. I did try reinstalling FF, but it didn't help.

Thanks for letting us know. I've been sitting on the edge of my seat now for two years wondering if it remained or went away. Now I can relax.

You are so welcome. I am so glad that I could help you out.

Maybe it could also help others who, like me, search here for specific problems and solutions before posting.

"If" the problem went away with the next FF update, as you have posted (which was nearly two years ago), one would have expected that whatever "help" you believe relating this issue to the readers of this thread would have made far more sense posting it when it occurred two years ago and not now. After all... what really is the point?

One point would be that anyone can search here at any time for any issue no matter when it happened. Whenever I search here, I always hope any issue has already happened so that I can read all the options available.

The update(s) did not occur 2 years ago, but more recently. I still know several people who use and prefer 3.6.

By the way, one thing I hadn't tried with this one was to completely uninstall everything FF, folders and all, and then reinstall. That very recently fixed a seemingly unresolvable video issue I was having.
