Will Netscape 7.2 Run Under Vista?

Postby kiteman » Sat 23 Apr, 2011 8:44 am

My wife wants to stay with her Netscape 7.2 E-Mail. I'd like to upgrade our computer which will mean purchasing one with a Vista OS (currently have XP). Will I be able to migrate her Netscape 7.2 Browser and E-Mail to a Vista OS?

Thanks,

kiteman

Why not purchase one with 7? That is much more updated.

And yes, I have ran it under both 7 and Vista. It's usable, I suppose. You should look into things like SeaMonkey or Thunderbird, as they are much more secure.

Both of which will import all of your current mail, and are actively maintained. Also, they work flawlessly under Vista and 7. Plus, SeaMonkey looks and feels much like Netscape.

Thank you!!! Should have explained the Vista reference.... looking at purchasing a recycled computer with a Vista OS. At any rate, you more than answered my question. I'll look into SeaMonkey to see if I can get her to switch to it. Really appreciate the advice....

Best regards,

I think it's safe to say that SeaMonkey is the successor to the Netscape suite. :sm:

From NS 7.2, SM is your ticket. NS7.2 was just Mozilla Suite, nothing Netscape about it. Mozilla Suite morfed into SeaMonkey. Except for the gingerbread user interface, she will find no difference in using the SM suite.

I have learned that SM suite, both users and developers are mostly in Europe. So, you know, it's like driving a BMW or an Audi.

I have never used the full suite in any of its forms. But I can tell you that the browser is solid as a rock, more robust than Firefox any day.
