Google redirection in Firefox

Postby Anonymosity » Thu 31 May, 2012 4:04 pm

I just checked the Google Canada search plugin, and found that the extension Redirect Cleaner was no longer preventing the redirection of links through Google. When I checked Google HTTPS from my bookmarks, the redirects are not happening, whereas using HTTP did have the redirects. What is going on? Is Google circumventing redirect removal somehow? Why did I not see redirects with the secure Google pages?
I am now using "google-no-tracking-url", which is a bit better. It did not work on Google from the search plugin, though. Does Google refrain from redirecting links on secure pages?

They all work, but I dislike the snooping that Google is attempting to do by redirecting my clicks on search results through itself, so I was trying to disable that. It would seem that Google (at least with HTTP) is circumventing attempts to stop its nosiness. It would also seem that Google with HTTPS is perhaps no longer doing that redirection, although I am not sure about that. I am wondering if Google is finding some ways of overcoming some attempts to stop the link redirection.

Seems like a simple solution: use a different search engine (i.e. DuckDuckGo). I prefer Bing for my searches.

Google is not my search engine of choice. Most of the time, I use Startpage. I was checking some behaviour that someone else reported when I noticed that Redirect Cleaner was no longer removing the redirects.
