Is Seamonkey 2.10, an update from 2.9.1?

Postby Fulvio » Thu 07 Jun, 2012 5:42 pm

I know that the Seamonkey people are adverse to isuing large numbers like the Firefox people, but something strange is going on. How can 2.10 be an update from 2.9.1.?The FAQs to which the release notes sends you to. But, on reading it, it refers to an old Seamonkey, while the release notes refer to a new item.
Otherwise, users have problems with this new and improved Seamonkey, especially Mail (multiple users or Hotmail). I, never had a problem updating Seamonkey, which has been my default for quite a while, but I am not going to update, for the time being.

I don't trust updates which are giving users problems, so, I decided to install SM2.10 in a separate folder, and use a different profile. This has worked for me as far back as I can remember. So the Target line for 2.10 is: C:\Seamonkey2.10\seamonkey.exe -p SM2.6. SM2.6 is an entirely different profile from that used for 2.9.1, whose Target line is: "C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -p default.
One would expect the two programs to use different profile, but, no, 2.10 opens with the "default" profile. What are they trying to do?

2.10 is a new release of SeaMonkey and is not the same as 2.1. I have always uninstalled old versions of everything, before installing a new version. SeaMonkey continues to use the same default profile that was originally created with an earlier version.

I am using 2.10 with as I wanted, after rebooting. So far, it seems to work, except that I have been unable to print a single page from it. I am checking if anything else is awire.

I tried to install 2.10 in the default location, but it insisted to install in the alternate location, without giving me any choice. After removing any traces of 2.10, I was able to 2.10 in the default location.
No problem with printing, today. And, multiple accounts do fine, although others reported issues. So far so good.
